VIDEO: 1989 LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

According to Wikipedia, "The Lamborghini Countach is a rear mid-engined, V12 sports car produced by Italian car manufacturer Lamborghini from 1974 to 1990. Its design pioneered and popularized the wedge-shaped, sharply angled look popular in many high-performance sports cars. It also popularized the "cab forward" design concept, which pushes the passenger compartment forward to accommodate a larger rear-mounted engine."

All very formal and informative. Which is nice.

What it fails to mention is that this was one of THE poster cars for perhaps millions of boys, and many men around the world for the best part of two decades. It was a game-changer in so many ways, it's design was shocking, breaking the mould and enticing you to stare at every detail. It wasn't particularly easy to get in and out of and was difficult to actually drive too, but none of that mattered to either those who had one or the rest of us who lusted for one.

To celebrate the mark of the 25th anniversary a special Countach was launched. Mechanically identical to the 5000 QV, the Countach Anniversary boasted a heavily restyled bodywork; with additional air intakes, scoops and disgraceful looking side skirts.

The Lamborghini Countach features carbon and Kevlar panels, bespoke wheel arch extensions, extended air-intake ducts and a new rear engine cover design. Power was lifted to an estimate of 455 horsepower from the 4-valve QV engine, offering 369 ft-lbs of torque.

Chrysler had acquired Lamborghini by then and the Countach got creatures comfort like electric seats and windows. With only 650 cars made, the Anniversary became the most popular of the Countach range. In the video below, Heather Ballentine, Lamborghini sales specialist, gives an overview of the classic Italian supercar; the 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary in Rosso Siviglia!

By 1990 the last of the 2,000 or so Countach's had been sold before the new Diablo heralded the end of two decades of Countach supremacy.
