AN ASTON MARTIN VALKYRIE FOR JUST R350,000? YOU BETCHA - BUT IT'S IN A 1:8 SCALE FROM AMALGAM

When the Aston Martin Valkyrie Coupé was first announced in 2016, it sounded like something dreamt up by a sci-fi screenwriter. By the time the first example reached a customer in late 2021, the motoring elite had taken notice - and they wanted in. Limited to just 150 units worldwide, the Valkyrie instantly became one of the most exclusive hypercars on the planet. Most have been spotted in the now-iconic Slipstream Green, one of four base colours alongside Liquid Petroleum, Ethanol Silver and Maximum Orange. With its lightweight 1,270 kg frame, a screaming 6.5-litre Cosworth V12 revving to 11,100 rpm, and an electric assist boosting total output to 828 kW and 900 Nm, the Valkyrie delivers mind-warping numbers: 0–100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and a top speed north of 400 km/h. Born from Aston Martin’s partnership with Red Bull Racing, it blends F1-level aerodynamics and tech, including Rimac’s hybrid wizardry, with the rare practicality of road legality, making it arguably the closest thing to a Formula 1 car you can drive to the shops. As with all Aston Martin performance icons, each example is meticulously hand-built in Gaydon, UK.

Now, thanks to a collaboration between Aston Martin and model-making masters Amalgam, enthusiasts with a little less garage space (but still deep pockets) can own their own Valkyrie - at 1:8 scale. Limited to just 199 pieces, the new model is a painstaking tribute to Aston Martin’s pursuit of innovation and performance. Measuring over 56 cm in length, each miniature Valkyrie is handcrafted using CAD data supplied directly by Aston Martin, ensuring every curve, vent and aerodynamic flourish is perfectly replicated. Over 3,000 development hours and more than 300 hours of individual assembly go into each example, which is built from thousands of precision-engineered parts. The standard model comes finished in Podium Green with a black interior, but Amalgam also offers tailor-made commissions for existing Valkyrie owners wanting a scaled-down twin of their full-size car. That level of craftsmanship doesn’t come cheap - the off-the-shelf version is priced at $19,900 (around R350,000) - but for those who missed out on the real thing, or simply want the ultimate display piece, it’s a hypercar masterpiece in miniature.

Take a look at the YouTube video that doesn't show the detailed scale model, but instead it shows the actual 1:1 version being driven and reviewed by Carwow's Mat Watson during a media session with the car about a year back - you know, just so you can see how amazing this creation is: I drove Aston Martin's road-legal F1 car! | carwow
