ARE YOU A STAND-UP PADDLEBOARDER? THIS BMW X SIPABOARDS COLAB WILL HAVE YOU OUT-PADDLING EVERYONE AT THE LAKE - FOR A PRICE.
BMW’s obsession with innovation and electrification just left the road and hit the water. Say hello to the BMW x SipaBoards, an all-electric stand-up paddleboard that fuses tech, luxury, and adventure in one sleek package. Built in collaboration with Slovenian paddleboard pioneer SipaBoards, this new creation brings BMW’s electric know-how to an entirely new kind of ride - and it’s every bit as premium as you’d expect. The BMW x SipaBoards board is self-inflating, electrically powered, and styled by the design legends at BMW Group Designworks - the same creative minds behind some of BMW’s most forward-thinking concepts. The result is a water toy for those who think “weekend leisure” should include thrust figures - and who have lots of money to play.
Stand-up paddleboarding has exploded into one of the world’s most popular outdoor activities - and BMW’s taken the trend straight into the future. The new BMW x SipaBoards turns calm waters into a new kind of playground with its integrated 300-watt electric motor, offering just enough extra push to glide through headwinds, currents, or lazy Sunday vibes. With a top speed of 7.5 km/h, the board offers effortless cruising, and the near-silent electric motor makes it feel like you’re floating over glass. Plus, before you even hit the water, that same motor does the heavy lifting - automatically inflating the board for you. Energy comes from swap-out battery modules, available in multiple capacities to suit short lake sessions or all-day adventures. The clever design lets you pop them in and out in seconds, so there’s no excuse to stop exploring.
The board’s structure is based on a specially developed X-woven drop-stitch core, giving it rock-solid rigidity and stability. The control interface, inspired by BMW’s futuristic Neue Klasse design language, is built right into the paddle handle - and it’s pure sci-fi cool. A Bluetooth remote lets you toggle drive modes, including FREUDE Mode (German for “joy,” naturally), which adds extra thrust, glowing light effects, and haptic feedback for that signature BMW drama. It also features route planning, battery monitoring, GPS tracking, and safety functions like automatic motor cut-off if the paddle hits the water. Lose the paddle, and the board instantly stops. No mad doggy-paddle to catch up to a runaway board.
At 3.65 metres long, 0.82 metres wide, and just 10.9 kg (14.9 kg with the motor), the e-SUP is light, strong, and capable of carrying two people. The carbon-fibre paddle and accessories continue the premium theme, with design cues pulled directly from BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse lineup. Available in three colours, the whole setup oozes sophistication - from its LED ambient underglow lighting to the optional Lifestyle Accessory Capsule, which bundles in goodies like an Insta360 X5 action camera and official BMW apparel. It’s as much a status symbol as it is a water toy. The price reflects this, of course. BMW and SipaBoards added an innovative click & connect mounting system, turning the paddleboard into a floating modular base. Want to add cameras, speakers, drinks, or even a coolbox? Click, attach, and go. It’s plug-and-play for the open water. The BMW x SipaBoards comes with two 90 Wh battery modules, perfect for up to 3.5 hours of cruising, but if you want the long-haul experience, in 2026, there will be an upgraded setup with two 180 Wh modules, doubling range to a massive seven hours on the water.
All this innovation, tech, and carbon-fibre coolness comes at a price. The BMW x SipaBoards retails for €3,990 (around R80,000). Told you.
