ENDURANCE: A DOCUMENTARY OF PORSCHE RACING LE MANS AND NüRBURGRING 24 HOURS

In 2019, Porsche raced in the Le Mans 24 Hours and the Nürburgring 24 Hours over back-to-back weekends. Endurance is a documentary about their time at the two toughest GT races in the world.

This is not something that happens often, a motorsport team taking on both the Le Mans 24 Hours and the Nürburgring 24 Hours in back-to-back weekends. As you can imagine, this is not an easy task.

The Porsche GT Team, now focussed on the LMGTE Pro class after leaving the LMP1 category, decided they would have a crack at it in 2019. This was an immense challenge, and it has been recorded beautifully in a documentary titled Endurance.

With director James Routh, of Netflix's Drive to Survive fame, behind the camera, you already know this is going to be an enthralling movie. Filmed over 25 days, the footage not only includes the racing action itself but also interviews with the drivers, technical staff and family members too.

Director of Factory Motorsport for Porsche, Pascal Zurlinden, and Race Engineer, Luca Massé, play a large part in Endurance. Both gentlemen do a tremendous job of steering us through all the trials and tribulations of each racing weekend.

Throughout the film, we're treated to a running commentary from Porsche drivers, Matt Campbell, Kévin Estre, Michael Christensen, and Laurens Vanthoor. Campbell describes the Nürburgring as follows; "When you're doing a night stint at maybe 2am, you are driving around, and there are fireworks, there are campfires, you can smell the sausages cooking. You know you can even feel your eyes sometimes stinging from the smoke from the fires." These champions of the GT class also give us insight into how they prepare in the weeks leading up to the races, both mentally and physically.

With incredible footage and careful editing, Endurance captures all of the emotions, from stress to anticipation, disappointment and joy. It's engaging and fascinating, and it'll have you begging to see racing action again, which is obviously a no-no during this global pandemic.

Endurance: The Story of the Two Toughest GT Races in the World, Back to Back is a fascinating look at Porsche and the commitment and dedication of each team member over two gruelling weekends of racing. You should watch it immediately.

If you are missing your motorsport, you should check out the Porsche Esports Supercup. It's an online virtual racing championship that, although not the real deal, delivers all the thrills and spills of an actual race. It's better than nothing, right?
