FORMOSA IN MOTION: PORSCHE TAIWAN UNVEILS A BESPOKE 911 CARRERA T INSPIRED BY THE “BEAUTIFUL ISLAND”

Porsche Taiwan has taken the idea of a bespoke 911 and shaped it into a rolling love letter to the island itself - the 911 Carrera T “Formosa”, a Sonderwunsch creation that pulls its entire identity from Taiwan’s cliffs, mountain passes, dense greenery and the Pacific that frames it all. The name Formosa - meaning “Beautiful Island,” first uttered by 16th-century Portuguese explorers - becomes the emotional backbone of this custom build. Taiwan is unique in the way its landscapes collide in such tight proximity: steep alpine roads that challenge both car and driver, jagged stone formations carved by centuries of ocean wind, and coastal waters that shimmer in shifting blues. All of this becomes visual narrative fuel for the project. The exterior wears Paint to Sample Ipanema Blue Metallic, a deep, luminous colour chosen to echo the Pacific, while crisp accents in Suzuka Grey Metallic pick up the tough, weather-worn stones of the east coast. Even the RS Spyder wheels play into the environment-inspired palette, with Suzuka Grey exteriors and Vanadium Grey inner beds that subtly shift tone depending on light - a nod to that ever-changing coastal atmosphere. Black HD-Matrix headlights and Exclusive Design taillights sharpen the look with a hint of technical aggression, giving this concierge-tailored Carrera T the kind of presence that doesn’t shout, but radiates intention. As Porsche Taiwan CEO Christian Nater puts it, the Formosa edition is “a statement of individuality and a celebration of Taiwan,” and through the Sonderwunsch programme, that statement becomes tangible, emotional and distinctly local.

The interior continues that storytelling with even more depth. Swing the door open, and the cabin feels like stepping into Taiwan’s lush mountains, thanks to Paldao wood trim - a material chosen specifically for its warm, organic character - paired with bi-colour Truffle Brown and Black leather that grounds the space in elegance. But the star of the cockpit is an entirely new creation: the “Formosa” chequered pattern, a trio of Night Green, Black and Cream White woven into seat inserts and even the fully leather-lined front boot. It’s the first time this pattern has ever appeared on a Porsche, and it instantly gives the car its own visual signature. Night Green stitching matches the island’s deep forestry shades, while the illuminated “Formosa x Sonderwunsch” door sills greet the driver with a quiet nod to the collaboration. The headrests carry embossed emblems featuring a 911 Carrera T silhouette integrated with ocean waves and mountain peaks - a literal stamping of Formosa’s identity into the seats. Beneath all the bespoke craftsmanship, the heart of the car remains pure Carrera T: lightweight, analogue, manual-transmission joy, tuned for engagement rather than excess, and absolutely perfect for the kind of technical, elevation-changing roads Taiwan is famous for. The Formosa project isn’t just personalisation - it’s Porsche’s modern Sonderwunsch philosophy in action, reviving the spirit of the late-’70s programme that empowered customers to co-create true one-offs. Whether through Paint to Sample Plus, full-scope interior redesigns, or complete restoration on older models, Sonderwunsch is once again giving enthusiasts the keys to individuality. The 911 Carrera T “Formosa” is proof of how far that freedom can go: a purist’s sports car that doubles as a cultural tribute, designed with intention and built with emotion, turning Taiwan’s landscapes into automotive art - and making your future lotto-winning custom Porsche feel that much more inevitable.
