Beloved ex-Top Gear trio Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May finally came up with an underwhelming name for their new Amazon Prime show: The Grand Tour. Hopefully this means more big adventures are on the way, because they took so long to some up with that?
Like Top Gear itself, the show will feature both prerecorded films from around the world as well as a studio portion, according to Variety. However, the studio segment will take place in a different location each week.
Vice President of Amazon Video Europe Jay Marine told Variety that the name reflects the worldwide nature of the show:
Well, that took a while… After nine months of deep thought, debate and deliberation, the guys have come up with a name that reflects the global ambition of the new show. The Grand Tour will be one of the most anticipated TV launches ever, and we’re excited to be bringing it to Amazon Prime customers around the world this autumn.
Well, at least Clarkson, Hammond and May have something in common with bad Facebook parents everywhere: it took them nine months to come up with a genuinely underwhelming name. Only instead of Cateylynn or Braedenn, it’s The Grand Tour.
One upside? Because the show will travel from location to location, you won’t have to save up for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to stand around a moist airfield in Britain. The show could come to you. Tickets will be released to Amazon customers in prize draws this summer.
Andy Wilman will also remain as the trio’s producer for the new show, so there’s hope that the content will be more exciting than the name. Let’s be honest, Top Gear was no stunner in the name department, either.
