THE UPCOMING HONDA SPORT EV CONCEPT

After revealing Honda's Urban EV at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Honda is following up with a new all-electric sporty concept car at next month's Tokyo Auto Show! This concept car will be based on the same platform as the compact Urban EV unveiled in Frankfurt last month.

A teaser leaked photo of the Sports EV Concept shows us a rear-slung performance silhouette with rounded rear fenders and a log hood evocative of the now-retired Honda S2000 sports coupe.

We can also see that the square tail lights have the same graphic treatment as the hatch-style Urban EV Concept that debuted Honda's future in electric vehicles.

According to Honda, the two cars share the same platform.

The Japanese carmaker is entering into EVs as automakers around the world rush to meet increasingly stringent emissions standards.

Honda is currently developing an electric car for release next year in China, while the latest concepts preview a separate line of EVs for Europe in 2019 and other markets!

According to Japan's Nikkei business daily report, Honda (which has long since been an electric car skeptic) is working on a dedicated EV platform to cover a range of segments from compact cars to SUVs.

Japanese rivals Toyota and Mazda formalized their plans earlier this week to, in addition, jointly develop a new electric vehicle architecture to underpin a swatch of segments from minicars to light trucks.

Honda's Sports EV Concept mixes EV performance with artificial intelligence technology into a compact form, the company said in a preview of its Tokyo show plans.

"It's unforgettable silhouette, friendly front fascia that naturally blends into any lifestyle, and supple surfaces make it a next-generation sports car that brings joy and emotional attachment in ownership," said Honda about the car, which will be making its world premiere alongside the Urban EV Concept's Japan debut in Tokyo.
