VIDEO: CHECK OUT ONE OF THE CRAZIEST LOOKING BMW I8'S IN THE WORLD!
Garage Italia Customs, the vehicle customizing business started last year by Fiat heir Lapo Elkann, has teamed up with BMW to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the automaker’s official presence in Italy.
The result of the partnership is this psychedelic i8 plug-in hybrid sports car, which features a livery inspired by the work of Italian artist Giacomo Balla and looks like it would fit right in with BMW’s own art cars.
The actual painting that inspired the wrap applied to the i8 is Balla’s Lampada ad Arcoof 1911, which today resides in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. For its time, the painting pointed to the future though its representation of the new technology electricity as well as its revolutionary color technique. Similarly, BMW’s i8 with its powerful yet efficient electrified powertrain points to the future of mobility.
“There was immediate synergy with BMW” Elkann said in a statement. “Garage Italia Customs and the BMW brand both share, in fact, all the values connected to technology evolution and the continuous search for innovation in their specific sectors.”
The special i8 is due to take part in the 2016 Mille Miglia running this weekend. It will join an original BMW 328 driven by Sergio Solero, the boss of BMW's Italian division.
