VIDEO: NEW BMW X7 IMAGES LEAKED AHEAD OF FRANKFURT REVEAL

The BMW X7 SUV is nearly here, but we have the exclusive renders, images and the details!

Thanks to an online leak of interior and exterior images, the BMW X7 is out of the bag. Although this isn't the production car, the X7 concept is set to make its debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Show coming up soon.

However, it is very close to production spec, with the fully formed interior design confirming a clear signpost to the production car due in 2018.

The all-new X7 model is expected to sit at the top of the list as the largest BMW SUV yet as the BMW's X range of SUVs is set to grow increasingly over the coming years.

The X7 is tipped to use underpinnings from the 7 Series. The all-new, full-size SUV boasts seven seats and proper Range Rover rivalling luxury! In UK spec, it should be arriving with six and eight cylinder petrol and diesel engines, as well as an iPerformance hybrid.

Entry level versions could cost just under £70,000.

From the spy photographs, we can see the car's tall, boxy proportions and flat face. The car was officially teased earlier last year during a strategic statement from BMW. The teaser image (a screengrab from the presentation) showed the model under a dust sheet – most likely in concept form.

The X7 "won't arrive this year or next, but it's well through the development phases," said BMW AG sales and marketing director Ian Roberston at the New York Motor Show in March.

He added that "there's very little resemblance to the X5, so it's not an extended wheelbase X5. It's very different – we wanted it to have its own identity."

In addition, Robertson commented on the SUV's luxury appeal: "We will make a higher luxury version of it as well. So, in the same way, you take a 7 Series and you bring in the individual bespoke service as with Rolls Royce."

In the strategic statement released in mid-March 2016, BMW said that "after leading the premium segment for more than ten consecutive years, the BMW brand is now poised to strengthen its position on a sustainable basis at the top end of its product portfolio, where rates of return are at their highest."

"We will be broadening our model range with the BMW X7," said the chairman of the board Harald Krüger. "We are also taking an in-depth look at the additional potential of this highly attractive segment."

There may not be many larger SUVs than BMW's current X5 in the UK and Europe but, in America, truly large 7 seat SUVs are very popular with models such as the Cadillac Escalade commanding impressive sales figures.

The X7's engines will also buck the European trend for downsizing, with the range of six-cylinder, V8 and V12 engines confirmed. However, it is also expected to be a development of the eDrive plug-in hybrid system that will appear in the X5.

Once the car arrives in 2018, it will most likely share some parts with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan – the first SUV to be released by Rolls-Royce. In addition, there is the possibility of this range-topper being joined by an X8 coupe-SUV.

BMW lodged an application to trademark that name which hints that it is in the marque's plan...
