WATCH SPRINGBOK CAPTAIN SIYA KOLISI'S EMOTIVE BACK STORY WITH MERCEDES-BENZ

South African rugby players are some of the biggest, fastest and scariest sportsmen on the planet. The players at the top of their game are often seen in big powerful cars that are sometimes bought but often make up part of a sponsorship deal with an automaker. In this case, we’re talking about the current South African Springbok captain Siya Kolisi. While everyone sees the big man on the field making other teams look amateur as he guides his teammates to victory, they often forget that many in SA have had a rough start to life so much so that we often forget the struggles they had to endure as well as all the hard work that went into honing skills to the level of competing in a sports team that represents the country on an international scale.

Siya Kolisi has worked hard to ensure that in the world of sports, he’s a household name, and being a world-famous athlete definitely has its perks. One of these is a partnership with Mercedes-AMG, and that means he was the perfect person to feature in one of the AMG Uncovered webisodes in a series made by the automaker to showcase who they’re involved with. These episodes also help to explain why the prestigious automaker sees a partnership with the episode subject as beneficial to both sides. Siya Kolisi’s start was tough, but the spirit and determination the man has had from that young age still shine through and you can understand how he got to where he is today. In 2019 Kolisi captained the Springboks to take the World Champions title by beating favourites England and it was the first time in World Cup history that a Black captain lifted the trophy.

Seeing where the 30-year-old rugby champion came from serves as an inspiration to millions of disadvantaged children who also hail from very poor conditions in townships where there’s little to eat, no proper bed, a very modest home, and little hope for a better future. Siya Kolisi’s talent and determination raised him up from his start in a township in Port Elizabeth township. A true champion.
