LAND ROVER’S ICONIC DEFENDER GETS MORE DIESEL BOOST WITH A MASSIVE 700 NM!

The Land Rover Defender has been a legend since its inception in 1983 as the "Defender" nameplate, evolving from the original Land Rover Series I that debuted way back in 1948. Designed for durability and off-road capability, the Defender quickly became synonymous with exploration and rugged adventure at the hands of many well-known explorers and humanitarians like Kingsley Holgate and the whole Camel Trophy crew. If you don’t know Camel Trophy, ask your gramps. Over the decades, it amassed a loyal and cult-like following, praised for its no-nonsense design and unstoppable nature in the toughest terrains. Its global popularity made it a mainstay in everything from safari expeditions to rescue operations, earning its place as a true automotive icon. Fast forward to today, the Defender continues to evolve, blending its legacy of capability with modern technology and luxury. With the introduction of the new D350 diesel engine, the Defender range has become more powerful, efficient, and refined than ever. Land Rover has upped the ante in the Defender’s diesel engine lineup with the launch of the new D350 powerplant, replacing the outgoing D300, which was already a great offering. The new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, diesel engine delivers an impressive power output of 257 kW - marking a 36 kW increase over its predecessor. Torque figures are pretty damn impressive, the figure rises by 50 Nm to a peak of a whopping 700 Nm. Diesel things.

Janico Dannhauser, Brand Manager of Jaguar Land Rover South Africa and Sub-Sahara Africa, explains: “The new D350 diesel joins our series of diesel engines that are known for their impressive power and torque output, especially considering their size and weight. The additional power and torque make Defender more engaging than ever, ensuring that everything from overtaking and towing, to tackling the most extreme off-road trails, is more effortless than ever.” This new engine not only enhances performance but is engineered to meet stringent emissions standards, offering a greener option for Defender enthusiasts. Its lightweight construction contributes to improved fuel efficiency, while advanced technologies minimize internal friction, vibration, and noise, delivering a smoother and quieter ride. The Defender range has also seen a host of updates to elevate the driving and passenger experience. The Defender 130 now offers an optional Captain Chairs pack, designed to provide second-row passengers with luxurious, individual seating. These heated and cooled Captain Chairs are separated by an aisle for easy access to the third row, creating a first-class travel experience for all occupants. Additionally, the Signature Interior Pack brings unparalleled comfort and elegance to the Defender lineup. Available across all body styles and included as standard on Defender X and V8 models, this pack offers upgrades like 14-way electrically adjustable front seats with heating, cooling, and memory functions, and winged headrests for added support. Second-row passengers benefit from climate seats, while even those in the third row are treated to heated seating for ultimate comfort. The cabin materials have also been elevated, featuring Windsor Leather and Kvadrat™ finishes in a range of colour options, such as Ebony or Caraway/Ebony. For a fresh, contemporary look, the new Ultrafabrics™ Light Cloud/Lunar colourway enhances the tactile luxury throughout the interior.
