LEWIS HAMILTON SHARES A 'SHOEY' WITH DANIEL RICCIARDO
Danial Ricciardo asked Lewis Hamilton to share a "shoey" tradition with him on the podium at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
This past weekend's Grand Prix at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari Grand Prix circuit was filled will hope, disappointment and unpredictability.
The qualifying results guaranteed Valtteri Bottas pole position, followed by Lewis Hamilton and then Max Verstappen. Towards the middle of the race, Hamilton received a welcome Virtual Safety Car that helped him leapfrog his teammate during a pit, a lead he held to the end. Bottas and Verstappen's battle for 2nd place saw Verstappen overtake the Fin who was nursing a damaged Mercedes, only to suffer a tyre blowout which resulted in Bottas finishing in second place, followed by Daniel Ricciardo in third.
Ricciardo was, of course, ecstatic with his podium finish and celebrated by doing a "shoey" which involves him taking off his racing shoe, filling it up with champagne and taking a gulp!
This time, however, he was stunned when Lewis Hamilton joined him.
Ricciardo said, "I was about to drink a beautiful fresh one and I heard Lewis saying 'take your other shoe off'.
"And I was like 'No...'. Because honestly, I think it was three years ago on the podium he goes: 'I'll never, ever do that, I'll never drink it. You can offer me, you can force me, I'll never do it'. And he even asked for it today.
"So it took me by surprise, but 2020 is the year of the strange so it was good fun."
