VIDEO: APOLLO ARROW - THE 1000-HP MONSTER WITH TWIN-TURBO AUDI POWER!
Remember the bizarre looking but devastatingly fast Gumpert Apollo? After a bankruptcy, the Gumpert brand is no more. Now, after a purchase by a group of Hong Kong investors, it's called Apollo Automobili. And this wild, beautiful concept is the first car to wear the new badge. Meet the Apollo Arrow, a 1000-hp screamer that sure tries to erase the memory of its strange-looking older brother.
Introduced at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Arrow uses a modified version of the original Apollo construction: A tubular chromoly space frame combined with a carbon fiber tub. The bodywork was penned by a British team tasked with making the high-performance machine just a little more conventional-looking. That mid-mounted, Audi-sourced, twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 promises to back up the rakish good looks. Apollo says it will tune the engine output to suit each buyer's desires, right up to a max of 986 horsepower and 737 lb.-ft. of torque, sent through a seven-speed sequential manual gearbox. With the engine turned up to the max, Apollo says the sub-2900-lb. Arrow will sprint from 0-60 in just 2.9 seconds on the way to a 224 mph top speed. Apollo says the Arrow will be both street legal and FIA approved, making it a true race car for the streets.
Given that the Gumpert Apollo was once one of the fastest cars ever to lap Top Gear's track, the Arrow has some fast shoes to fill.
