Europe has some impressive performance cars built and developed on its own soil, which makes it super surprising that the best-selling sports car in recent times is American!

The Ford Mustang sold more than 15 000 units in Europe in 2016, and has claimed the top spot in the European market! This contributed to the Mustang's 6% growth in global sales over 2015.

This year, 2017, the Mustang has sold about 3600 units in the first quarter, according to Roelant de Waard (vice president of marketing, sales and service at Ford Europe). He added that the European market has played a huge role in the Mustang's global success.

The Ford Mustang is currently available in 140 countries. In Southern Africa, about 860 units of the Mustang were sold in 2016.
