THE ICONIC AUDI RS4 IS 25 YEARS OLD, SO THERE'S A LIMITED EDITION ANNIVERSARY MODEL. ALSO, IT'S NOW RS 4 WITH A SPACE.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the RS 4, Audi is launching a special celebratory model, the Audi RS 4 Avant edition 25 years - That’s a mouthful of a name and we’re lucky Audi uses that weird model designation or the whole back-end of the wagon would have the name from one side to the other. The RS 4 is the performance flagship of Audi’s A-series cars and this special model stands out more than the usual RS 4 Avant thanks to the attractive ‘look at me’ Imola Yellow paintwork and an exclusively updated interior. The original model harks back to the late 90s, 1999 to be exact, when Audi established the idea of a sports wagon with the Audi Avant RS2 and Audi S6 plus. The first RS model from the then quattro GmbH was the 1999 B5-generation RS4 Avant - a car that set new standards and also had no space in the name meaning it was an RS4 back then. Compared to the regular Audi S4, the RS4 featured a widened body and a twin-turbocharged 2.7-litre 6-cylinder powerplant that was fettled with by the pros at Cosworth. 25 years ago this thing was rated at a healthy 280 kW., that’s proper impressive. The sportiest version of the first RS4 hit the market in 2001 with the RS4 Sport that featured an even lower suspension, awesome bucket seats, a sport exhaust with an amazing soundtrack, and a suede steering wheel. The RS 4 Avant edition 25 years ago harks back to that memorable design and is now the sportiest version of the current B9 shape of the A-series class from the German automaker. These advances in the engine and suspension deliver impressive performance, the twin-turbocharged V6 in the RS 4 Avant edition 25 years has been tweaked and now measures 15 kW higher than the regular version, it’s now at a proper 346 kW of power with an associated 600 Nm of torque. This translates into a 0 to 100 km/h shunt in as little as 3.7 seconds which is mad fast for a car of this size, and it’s even 0.4 seconds faster than the regular version. The limited edition car also has a top speed of 300 km/h. The Audi RS 4 Avant edition 25 years comes with the RS Sport Suspension Pro package, which is a manually adjustable coilover suspension that has the perfect combination of dynamics and comfort and is 10 mm lower than the RS 4 Avant and it can be lowered by a further 10 mm.

The car also comes with the quattro sport differential that helps ensure greater agility and more rearward bias for increased driving fun, especially in “dynamic” driving mode that is only to be used if you have a tyre sponsor or a tax refund. The updated software in the transmission control unit makes for faster shifting times and a noticeably increased spread between the various driving modes. Exclusively for the Audi RS 4 Avant edition 25 years, the negative camber on the front axle has been increased to 2 degrees and stiffer control arms were also fitted to result in improved grip and better handling for faster cornering speeds. A firmly fixed subframe on the rear axle provides more precise suspension feedback and better overall performance. This is further enhanced by the improved Torsen differential. To put all that power on the road, the RS 4 Avant edition 25 years comes standard with the Pirelli P Zero Corsa high-performance tyres designed for the road and the racetrack and they’re mounted on a set of machined 20” alloy wheels in Palladium mattem as seen on the RS 4 Avant optioned with the competition package. Customers also receive a second set of wheels fitted with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS semi-slicks and the Pirelli Track Adrenaline system. To commemorate the colour of the OG version of the RS4 Sport, this special edition is also available in the aforementioned Imola Yellow paint, but can also be had in Nardo Gray and Mythos Black. This limited edition wagon also feaures gloss black sine window trims, gloss black Audi rings and lettering, Matrix LED headlights, removed roof rails, tinted sun protection glazing for the rear door and side windows, ‘RS 4 edition 25 years’ lettering engraved in the windows, a matt carbon appearance package, a black/yellow leather Alcantara combination, floor mats with the RS 4 logo, red lettering is now yellow, RS bucket seats with honeycomb stitching and the option of a limited edition watch - the Chronograph RS 4 Avant edition 25 years that is also limited to 250 units like the car itself.
