AUDI'S POPULAR A4 IS NOW CALLED THE A5 AND THERE'S SOME NEW ONES.

I’ve always thought the Audi A5 range was a bit of an odd one in the lineup, it was so close to the A4 range that choosing between the two is likely to come down to the best financial deal as opposed to which looks better and offers the most features. The press release also updates us on the A5 as a model with a bit of a confusing paragraph that reads: “Audi is opening the next chapter in its successful history in the mid-size segment with the new A5 family. Launching 30 years after the first Audi A4, the sharpened design language of the latest generation, now called the Audi A5, captivates with premium proportions.” So the A4 is now the A5, which means all those sales reps out there who make up the majority of buyers (an unscientific fact we just made up) can brag about being a model higher on the social status ladder. So there’s no official death notice for the A4 model range, but it’s no longer available, but it is available as the all-new A5, a model that was actually introduced back in 2007. So here’s the new Audi A5 which is the first combustion-engine version to enable partial electric driving thanks to drivetrains with MHEV plus technology.  "The new A5 shines with its sporty design, new interior and modern electronic architecture. It also marks the launch of our new generation of efficient combustion engines," says Gernot Döllner, CEO of Audi. “In tandem with the expansion of our all-electric portfolio, we are launching a new generation of models with efficient combustion engines. The Audi A5 family with its athletic design, completely new interior and future-proof electronics architecture will be the first. The advanced MHEV plus technology enables partially electric driving and therefore even more efficient driving.” he expanded. The A5 has a full design rework and it does look more trimmed, a bit tucked and a lot sportier looking. A range-topper with a massive engine will surely be awesome, something with an S or RS logo affixed to the front grille.

Added to the new design is some impressive lighting, LED technology at the front and 2nd-generation digital OLED rear lights at the rear that feature 60 segments per digital OLED panel. These enable car-to-x communication and help increase safety on the road. The headlights and rear lights are three-dimensionally designed and offer optional digital light signatures for some personalisation. The interior has a human-centric design, there’s an MMI panoramic display and head-up display, with the virtual cockpit with an 11.9-inch visible screen diagonal and a 14.5-inch MMI touch display. There’s an optional 10.9-inch MMI front passenger display, head-up display and loads more. There are four different powerplants for the new A4/5 so far, starting with a 2.0 TFSI rated at 110 kW as well as a different version with a turbocharger and 150 kW of power on tap. The former will be front-wheel drive and the 150 kW version can be had in front-wheel drive or quattro. There’s also a turbocharged 2.0 TDi with 150 kW of power and it's partially electrified using the new 48-volt MHEV plus system. The current range-topper is the S5 - as we wanted, and being at the top of the ladder means it has a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 TFSI lump rated at a healthy 270 kW and this one also uses MHEV plus technology for the first time. The revised S tronic dual-clutch transmission in the Audi S5, designed for more torque, also reduces the weight on the front axle and improves agility. The daddy version gets the usual Audi quattro sport all-wheel drive underpinnings. The powertrain generator (PTG) enables partially electric driving that contributes to a reduction in fuel consumption and can add up to 18 kW of electric power to the output of the combustion engine when decelerating, the PTG feeds energy back into the battery at up to 25 kW resulting in the ability for purely electric manoeuvring and parking to a limited extent. Thanks to the option of using an electric air conditioning compressor, the air conditioning system can also be operated when the vehicle is stopped at traffic lights and the combustion engine is switched off. Autogefühl will take you through the rest of the details and features of the car - there’s a lot!

Take a look at the YouTube video that details the all-new Audi A5 that was an Audi A4 even though there was once an A5 range anyway that seems like a weird way to drop the A4: The all-new Audi A4 is now the all-new Audi A5 - WHAT?! 😮 | Autogefühl
