BBR RELEASES TWO NEW TUNING PACKAGES FOR THE MAZDA MX-5

British tuners, BBR, have released information about their two new tuning packages to boost the performance of the Mazda MX-5.

Performance of the Mazda MX-5 has been found wanting by owners who are looking for a little extra excitement. This is all the inspiration the guys at BBR needed to develop two kits for Mazda’s latest 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G engine, especially after the success of their performance mods for the previous generation MX-5.

The first of the new kits is called the Super 200 and, with both mechanical and software upgrades, the engine now delivers 202bhp and 224Nm of torque. To gain the extra 18bhp and 14Nm over the stock vehicle, the engine management system has been remapped, there is now a K&N high flow air filter, a cold air intake system and a chunky four-into-one stainless steel exhaust manifold.

If you're still looking for more, there's the Super 220 that expands on the Super 200 package. Over and above the items listed above, the Super 220 receives a set of re-profiled camshafts and uprated valve springs and retainers. These uprated mechanicals increase the performance figures to 221bhp and 225Nm, up by 36bhp and 15Nm over the standard MX-5.

It's not clear if these upgrades will be available outside of the UK, but both the Super 200 and Super 220 are available as a “drive-in, drive-out” conversion at the BBR’s Brackley headquarters. The packages can be fitted by the BBR team and include a dyno test for verification, or you can install everything yourself if you want to save a few pounds.

Prices for the Super 200 start from £1,245 if you want to fit it yourself, having it done for you at BBR is just 200 pounds more. The Super 220 will cost you £2,895 if you choose to have it fitted by the BBR team, otherwise, install it yourself for £2,235. All prices are ex VAT.

The British tuning company offers an array of other upgrades, including for the brakes, chassis and suspension so get in touch with them if you're looking to make your Mazda MX-5 even more special.
