IS GEORGE RUSSELL BEING USED AS A BARGAINING CHIP AGAINST HAMILTON?

The latest F1 conspiracy is the question of whether or not George Russell is being used as a bargaining chip between Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton's 2021 contract.

With the unfortunate news of Lewis Hamilton contracting Covid-19 before the second last race of the 2020 Formula 1 season, Mercedes Benz had to find a replacement driver for the last two races and the young Williams driver, George Russell, got given the opportunity – which he gladly took.

Although George suffered a slow puncture and mixup at a pitstop, the young British driver did exceptionally well standing in for the world champion.

But what is actually going on behind the scenes? If you follow Formula 1, you might have noticed that Lewis Hamilton has not yet secured a contract for 2021 as yet. This raises a few good questions as what both Mercedes Benz and Lewis Hamilton are going to do in the best interest for the team?

A few race team officials have brought forward the question of George Russell being used as a negotiation tool against Hamilton.

Red Bull Formula 1 team manager, Christian Horner, had this to say: "I'm sure Toto's looking to use it to perhaps negotiate Lewis's contract in some way, shape, or form. So, it will be fascinating to see how it plays out, but it's great to see another youngster getting that chance and opportunity."

Mercedes Team manager, Toto Wolff, has now officially spoken about this.
