KIA'S AMAZING PV5 IS BEING CONVERTED FOR THE VAN LIFE - THE SPIELRAUM STUDIO AND SPIELRAUM GLOW ARE GAME CHANGERS.

Kia and LG Electronics are shaking up the automotive space with a collaboration that transforms vans into high-tech mobile workstations and outdoor retreats. Unveiled at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, the PV5 Spielraum Studio and PV5 Spielraum Glow concepts take full advantage of Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) technology, seamlessly blending LG’s cutting-edge home appliances with the practicality of a van. And if you think this is just another gimmick-filled concept, think again. These things are set to hit the market in the second half of 2026. The Spielraum Studio concept is designed for the modern solo entrepreneur—those who need to move fast but still require a fully functional workspace on the go. Featuring AI-powered appliances from LG, including modular Stylers (think high-tech clothing refreshers), smart mirrors, and even coffee machines, this van isn’t just about mobility - it’s about productivity. The onboard AI syncs with your schedule, monitors travel time, and optimizes settings so you can focus on the hustle while the van takes care of the details. For those looking to escape the 9-to-5 grind (or just want a killer setup for weekend road trips), the Spielraum Glow cabin concept brings a fresh take on outdoor leisure. Outfitted with a refrigerator, lightwave oven, and even a wine cellar, this PBV is built for adventure. LG’s MoodUP panels add a customizable touch, changing colors to match the atmosphere - whether it’s a chilled-out night under the stars or a lively sunset gathering. It's a pity there aren’t more detailed pics of these installations, we’d love to see exactly what's been fitted and how the limited space is utilised to maximum effect.

These concepts land at a time when van life is bigger than ever. Whether it’s digital nomads escaping the cubicle, road-trippers looking for a sense of freedom, or professionals seeking a workspace beyond four walls, the demand for mobile living solutions has exploded worldwide. With skyrocketing rent and a growing emphasis on work-life balance, more people are turning their vehicles into homes, offices, and everything in between. It’s a lifestyle that blends flexibility, sustainability, and a touch of rebellion against the traditional way of living. Unfortunately, in places like good old South Africa, the dream of a mobile office or camper van setup comes with serious risks. The country’s high crime rate and ineffective policing mean that while the idea is incredible, the reality is a gamble. A fully loaded high-tech van would be an irresistible target, making it a tough sell for those who actually need a safe mobile workspace. Still, seeing brands like Kia and LG push the boundaries of what’s possible is a step in the right direction. With these two PBV concepts set for a 2026 release, the idea of transforming a van into a high-tech rolling sanctuary is closer than ever to becoming a reality - at least in places where keeping hold of your van isn’t an extreme sport. We’d LOVE a mobile van full of all our favourite electronics to make event coverage more streamlined and fun, but the thought of all the gear being ‘liberated’ in one go is scary AF.

Take a look at the YouTube video from the people who know more about EVs than we do. Here, they show us the ins and outs of the KIA PV5, the electric van that serves as the base for the above pair of mobile solutions. This is the kind of van we'd rock daily: FIRST LOOK Kia PV5.
