MAX VERSTAPPEN IS THE 2021 F1 WORLD CHAMPION! - RACE RECAP

What on earth just happened? Regardless of whether you are a Lewis Hamilton fan or Max Verstappen fan, there were moments in this Grand Prix that had you screaming with excitement, shaking from shattered nerves and severe disappointment!

With Max on Pole with the soft tyre, we all assumed that he would retain first place for quite some time, however, Lewis Hamilton managed to gain first place within the first couple of seconds and kept his position throughout the entire race regardless of the yellow flags and Red Bull's pit stop strategies and fresher tyres. However, with only 5 laps to go, Red Bull admitted that they needed a miracle if they wanted any chance at the world title and they got it! Nicolas Latifi had a crash that caused a yellow flag that lasted just shy of four laps, but the FIA decided that the lapped cars between Hamilton and Verstappen could overtake that essentially left Max and Lewis down to a side by side drag race to the finish line. Max had an advantage as Red Bull made a smart move by allowing him to pit and change to a set of soft tyres.

Just before the final lap, the safety car came in and Lewis and Max had a head to head battle for the world title and Max, at the very last minute of the race, overtook Lewis and for the first time in his F1 career is now champion of the world!
