MINIATURE ART – AMALGAM’S FERRARI SF-25 IN 1:18 SCALE, DRESSED IN THE 2025 AUSTRALIAN GP LIVERY.

Model cars have been part of the petrolhead story for decades - what started as die-cast toys evolved into serious display pieces that spark the same passion as the full-size machines they mimic. But Amalgam doesn’t just build models; they craft art. Each creation is a celebration of automotive design, engineered and detailed with a level of precision that borders on obsession. When you see one in person, you don’t think “toy” - you think “museum piece.” Founded back in 1985, Amalgam’s reputation for excellence has seen it collaborate with Ferrari, McLaren, Bugatti, and Pagani, among others. Their workshop produces hand-built, art-grade replicas that sit proudly in collectors’ lounges, OEM design studios, and occasionally, royal garages. They’re the pinnacle of miniature motoring - and now, they’ve turned their focus to one of the most talked-about Formula One cars in recent memory: Ferrari’s 2025 SF-25.

Ferrari’s SF-25 is Maranello’s 71st Formula One car, and it represents a complete redesign aimed at pushing Scuderia Ferrari HP back to the top of the standings. It builds on the foundation of the race-winning SF-24 and brings with it one of the biggest driver moves in the sport’s history - Lewis Hamilton’s shock transfer from Mercedes to Ferrari, joining Charles Leclerc for a dream-team lineup. The car, first revealed at London’s O2 Arena during the F1 75 launch event, features a major technical shift: Ferrari’s engineers have ditched the previous pushrod setup for a pull-rod front suspension, designed to unlock new aerodynamic gains and optimise airflow. The chassis is lighter, the aero more efficient, and while the power unit doesn’t introduce radical innovations, it’s been meticulously refined for reliability and consistency - a necessity in a season expected to be separated by mere thousandths of a second.

Visually, the SF-25 is an instant classic. It's new 2025 Racing Red - a deeper, matte shade - evokes Ferrari’s early racing heritage while embracing a modern edge. The livery features a bold white slash along the bodywork, symbolising motion and evolution, while subtle red and white striping adds that quintessential Italian flair. The red wheels and white driver numbers complete a look that’s both nostalgic and futuristic - a masterclass in race car aesthetics.

For the Tifosi who want a piece of the action without owning a race team, Amalgam has recreated the Ferrari SF-25 in exquisite 1:18 scale. This isn’t a mass-produced shelf piece - it’s a precision-built, hand-finished work of art. Every panel, every decal, every aerodynamic surface is accurate down to the millimetre, thanks to Ferrari’s direct involvement. The model was created using the original CAD data and factory paint codes supplied by Maranello itself. Even at this smaller scale, the SF-25’s sculpted form commands attention. The matte red paintwork shimmers under light just like the full-size car, and the minute details - from the complex front wing assembly to the driver-specific numbering - make it feel alive. It’s an object of pure craftsmanship; the kind of piece that turns a desk, coffee table, or collector’s cabinet into a corner of the paddock.

Of course, Amalgam’s art doesn’t come cheap. This 1:18 SF-25 will set you back around $1,450 (roughly R26,000 landed in South Africa). That’s the kind of money most people would put toward tyres or a decent tune-up - but for collectors, it’s a small price to pay for owning a piece of F1 history frozen in time.

Take a look at the YouTube video from the Amalgam chaps that shows off their excellent workmanship. To be fair, this is the 1:8 scale model, and the one we talked about above is the 1:18 scale model, but you still get an idea of just how cool it is: The Ferrari SF-25 at 1:8 scale | Amalgam Collection
