TESLA MODEL X. A FAMILY VAN WITH GULLWING DOORS, 762HP AND 3.8 SECOND 0-100KM/H TIME!
It’s not entirely official, but it comes on good authority—we now know the price of the much-anticipated Tesla Model X, in addition to a host of other information about the next-great-thing from the California-based electric-vehicle-maker. The short-take? Like its Model S predecessor, this Tesla is going to be pricey, quiet and fast.
Based on a report from InsideEVs the first available version of the Model X will be the 90kWh All-Wheel Drive model Signature Series, fetching a price of $132,000. According to the report, Tesla has claimed the eventual base price will be $25,000 less than that, but that still places the starting price north of $100,000. But for that price, Tesla certainly takes care of you. The electric drivetrain makes an astounding 762 horsepower, yielding a 0-100km/h time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 248km/h. Max range is listed at 384km. If you want to dish out another $10,000, you get the Ludicrous mode upgrade, which brings the 0-100km/h time down to 3.2 seconds.
So it’s faster in a sprint than a Challenger Hellcat, and has more total horsepower than a Corvette Z06, but this thing is supposed to be a family hauler, right?! The Model X delivers in that department as well. It has three rows of really sharp looking bucket seats, and access to the second and third rows is provided by the “Falcon Wing” doors. According to the literature, the dramatic-yet-impractical-looking doors have sensors to allow them to safely open in a garage. Other standard equipment includes an automatically deploying rear spoiler, parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, and an eight-year/unlimited-mile battery and drive unit warranty—to name a few. Being an SUV-like vehicle, there’s a tow package (a $750 option) that adds a hitch and receiver, with a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
Any way you cut it, this an impressive vehicle. We will be very interested to see how the rest of the pricing breaks down for lesser models.
