THE 2024 SHELBY SUPER SNAKE HAS NO ANTIDOTE FOR ITS VENOMOUS 830+ HP SUPERCHARGED POWERPLANT.
Shelby is as American as Ford, possibly even more so. While Ford has been creating cars for the American (and worldwide) car-buying public for a full 101 years now, there have been loads of companies and people who have made a name for themselves by modifying, the most famous is arguably Shelby American. The company was founded by the legendary Carroll Shelby who became the worldwide face of modified Fords and is responsible for most of the coolest bad-ass Fords on the planet. There are loads of conversion kits offered by Shelby, some take the normally aspirated powerplants and give them more power and the bite to match the bark, while the best of them see a supercharger added into the mix to take the power to the extreme. Some of the conversions can be bought off the showroom floor with a full warranty and factory approval, and others feature a comprehensive makeover that sees changes to every part of the car, including changes to the bodywork, wheels, suspension and interior. Last year one of the coolest releases from Shelby American came in the form of a limited edition Mustang GT called the Centennial Edition that was created to celebrate Caroll Shelby’s 100th birthday. Seeing as it was created to celebrate a centenary birthday, it was limited to 100 units that could push out a pretty impressive 750 hp, or 552 kW if you use proper metrics. This time around, Shelby American’s latest attack on the timeless Ford Mustang uses a 2024 Ford Mustang with the 5.0 litre V8 lump and it's taken to the extreme. There are also two options, buyers can have one in a “lower” powered normally aspirated guise that generates 480 hp (353 kW) or with a fat supercharger added on for more than 830 hp (610 kW) of venomous power.

By collaborating with Ford Motor Company, Whipple and other top companies, our Las Vegas team created our best Shelby Super Snake yet.”
“The roots of the Shelby Super Snake began with the race-bred Mark IV Ford GT, which won Le Mans in 1966,” said Gary Patterson, President of Shelby American. “That car's engine was the inspiration for the first Shelby Super Snake, a one-off experimental built for high-speed testing on the track. Over the years, the Shelby Super Snake has evolved but continued to keep its competition-edged' personality. The 2024 Shelby Super Snake is pure American performance. The 2024 Shelby Super Snake is visually stunning. It is such a contrast in styling from European marques yet has the performance capabilities to compete with them at half their price. With only 250 available in the US, it will be ultra-rare.”
“We set out to make the 2024 Ford Mustang the most technically sophisticated Shelby Super Snake in history,” said Vince La Violette, Shelby American Vice President of Operations and Senior Designer. “Through careful engineering, we were able to add much more power while working to keep the weight more balanced with a new aluminium hood and carbon fibre fenders that also redirect the wind for ultimate cooling. Our lightweight magnesium alloy wheels cut pounds off the rotating mass so you can run deeper into and accelerate faster out of the corner. The featherweight carbon fibre tail wing keeps the retuned suspension firmly planted. We have an unwavering commitment to the enthusiast. With the Super Snake's competition heritage, we knew it was critical to dial up a car that is enjoyable during daily commutes and deeply rewarding during spirited driving. While the styling inside and out is certainly handsome, functionality drove every decision. This car checks all the boxes.”
This new Super Snake is available in normally aspirated form, supercharged form, manual or automatic and in hardtop and convertible guise. It will be limited to just 250 units worldwide and will be available from Q2 of 2024. Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but each one will have a 3-year / 36,000-mile warranty from Shelby and the powertrain warranty from Ford remains intact. All units will also be documented in the official Shelby Registry.
