THE ALL-NEW MERCEDES-AMG E 53 HAS ARRIVED WITH UP TO 450 KW OF HYBRID POWER.

The basis for the E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ powerplant is the turbocharged AMG 3.0-litre in-line six rated at 330 kW, 10 kW up on the previous model thanks to a new twin-scroll turbocharger with higher boost pressure, newly programmed software, an additional front cooler, and a wheel arch cooler. The electric component is an electric motor rated at 120 kW integrated into the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission. The electric motor's maximum torque of 480 Nm is instantly available which affords the car an amazing launch in RACE START mode. The car also has an electric-only range of more than 100 km. When combined, the petrol-fed base powerplant and the electric motor generate 430 kW in normal modes, and that rises to 450 kW using RACE START, which also makes use of the full 750 Nm of torque. This means the E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 280 km/h. As you’d expect from a car that’s heavier thanks to the hybrid components, being able to reign it in from the speeds it can do, the braking system is top-notch. The new E 53 features an AMG high-performance sports system comprised of internally ventilated brake discs measuring in at a sizeable 370 millimetres up front with large red-painted 4-pot calipers while the rear sees fitment of 360-millimetre discs with single-piston floating calipers.“The E-Class has been one of our most popular models for decades and we want to build on this with the new E 53 HYBRID. The vehicle offers typical AMG driving pleasure with excellent responsiveness, great driving dynamics and a sporty design. As a plug-in hybrid, the E 53 HYBRID combines mighty performance with efficiency. Thanks to the high electric range, many everyday journeys can be completed purely electrically. At the same time, the vehicle comes with extensive standard equipment, including fully variable all-wheel drive and active rear-axle steering. In this way, we offer our customers a vehicle that is perfect for their high demands.” Says Michael Schiebe, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of Business Units Mercedes-Benz G-Class & Mercedes-Maybach.

The new Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ has model-specific features identified with a host of specialised design elements. The car features an AMG-specific radiator trim with illuminated vertical slats, 11 mm wider front fenders, powerfully shaped outer air inlets with two vertical fins, and the central A-wing. The side view shows flowing modelled surfaces without beads or edges and recessed door handles, AMG-specific side skirt panels, horizontally connected LED taillights in the stylised Mercedes star signature, an AMG spoiler lip on the boot lid, an AMG rear apron with diffuser and dual round double tailpipe trims, hybrid-specific badges on the front fenders and rear, and tasty 19-inch light-alloy wheels (20-inch and 21-inch options will follow soon). Inside there’s an E 53 HYBRID‑specific setup with illuminated trim in grey open-pore ash wood with an AMG logo and the MBUX Superscreen with passenger monitor is available as an option - this looks amazing and gives a futuristic look and feel. There are also AMG-specific displays and features as well as the additional, exclusive menu content AMG Performance and the optional AMG TRACK PACE. There are also hybrid-specific displays and functions including a charging menu and displays in the instrument cluster and on the multimedia screen. The Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ also features electrically adjustable AMG sports, ARTICO man‑made leather/MICROCUT microfibre upholstery with red contrasting topstitching and a unique AMG seat graphic. The electrically adjustable AMG performance seats can be ordered as an option. The basic equipment includes the AMG performance steering wheel in Nappa leather with AMG steering wheel buttons. There’s about a gazillion specs, special features and new technical features, they’re available on the Mercedes-Benz website, but be warned, you’ll need to have a good hour and a half free to thoroughly read through them.
