THE BEST-LOOKING DTM CAR OF ALL TIME HEADS TO THE AUCTION BLOCK.

The Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) of the 1990s remains an era revered by motorsport fans, celebrated for its explosive mix of star drivers, manufacturer rivalries, and cutting-edge technology. The drivers were treated as rock stars, proper celebrities who had ticker-tape-style parades when championships were won. The 1993 season marked a turning point for the championship, adopting the FIA’s Class 1 regulations. These rules allowed manufacturers to push the limits of engineering with high-revving, multi-cylinder engines, advanced four-wheel-drive systems, and striking aerodynamic "silhouette" bodywork. The resulting cars were a far cry from the street-legal versions, but they had just enough of an identity that you always knew what car the racecars were based on. Alfa Romeo seized this opportunity with its 155 V6 TI, powered by a screaming 2.5-litre V6 engine and paired with an innovative all-wheel-drive system. The result was nothing short of spectacular: Nicola Larini piloted the Alfa to 14 victories, overcoming fierce competition from the AMG-Mercedes C-Class and the Joest-Opel Calibra to clinch the 1993 championship. The Alfa 155’s dominance was a testament to its revolutionary design and relentless pace, setting a benchmark in a field brimming with talent and innovation. It doesn’t matter which teams you were a fan of back then, the Alfa Romeo was hands-done the best-looking car of the series. The racecars were seen on the walls of kid’s rooms, workshops, offices and man caves throughout the ‘90s - and if they were quality prints you can still find them hanging up today. If you think there was ever a better-looking DTM car, you’re just wrong.

The 1994 season saw Alfa Romeo refining its approach, introducing updates like the Kelsey-Hayes ABS system and active suspension. However, reliability issues plagued the campaign, allowing Klaus Ludwig’s AMG-Mercedes to claim the title, with Larini finishing third overall. Now, for one lucky - and wealthy - Alfisti this rare car is heading to the auction block at the upcoming RM Sotheby’s Paris auction. The car offered is one of only 10 Alfa Corse-built 155 V6 TIs from that season and holds a distinguished history. Campaigned by Schübel Engineering and driven by former F1 driver Christian Danner, it achieved 14 points-scoring finishes, including two remarkable second-place podiums at the Nürburgring. The car continued its competitive career in 1995 under Euroteam, where Stefano Modena secured a memorable second-place finish at Avus before the car retired from racing and returned to Alfa Corse for display. Painstakingly restored to its original specification in 2017 by Fabrizio Pandolfi, this car is accompanied by an extensive spares package, including a spare engine, gearboxes, and its original Wagenpass. Representing a golden era of DTM, this Alfa Romeo is a rare opportunity to own a piece of motorsport history that once battled against legends like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Opel Calibra in one of racing’s most iconic championships. Want it? Expect to shell out in the region of R11,000,000 plus taxes and shipping.
