It’s something like 20 years ago that Porsche created the Cayenne, an SUV designed and created by a sports car/supercar manufacturer and at first the world wasn’t much of a fan, especially Porsche fanatics. The thing is, while it took a few years, the rest of the automakers eventually caught a wakeup and realised that Porsche didn’t only create a performance SUV, they actually managed to create a whole new category of car. It did take Lamborghini sixteen years to enter this category and so it was in 2018 that we saw the first Lamborghini Urus break ground. It’s been four years since the Italian performance SUV saw the light of day, and that means it’s just about time we see a new version - enter the Lamborghini Urus Performante. This new Performante has to be the ultimate in SUVs, besides that amazing bold and angular styling there’s a ridiculous 657 hp on tap. SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY SEVEN!

Yeah, that’s monster power, and it’s created by a turbocharged 4.0-ltre V8 that as said, offers up a very impressive 657 hp with associated torque up at 850 Nm and it’s available from just 2 300 rpm - it must feel like a Boeing taking off the way power builds. Even though it’s an SUV and bigger than a car, and it tips the scales in excess of two tons the performance is stupid. The Lamborghini Urus Performante hits 100 km/h in just 3.3-seconds and has a top speed of 306 km/h. While there are loads of cars with impressive specifications on paper, the Urus Performante features a new drive mode - Rally - and the automaker put it to test at the 2022 instalment of the world renowned Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The SUV set a course time of 10:32:064 which shattered the previous record for a production SUV by 17 seconds. There’s nothing that gets a PR’s blood pumping more than having the product they need to market setting an amazing record at an international event before the car hits showroom floors.

It’s clear the Urus has been a top-seller for Lamborghini, stats tell us that in the four year production run of the SUV that over 21 000 Urus units were delivered to customers around the world. Even more interesting is that nearly 17 000 (80%) of those sales went to buyers new to the Lamborghini brand. The future of the upcoming new Urus, the Urus S is bright indeed.
