THE STUNNING GINETTA AKULA MOVES FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY WITH A LIMITED NUMBER PRODUCTION RUN.

British motorsport powerhouse Ginetta has just dropped their latest masterpiece—the production version of the jaw-dropping 440 kW Akula supercar. Based on the 2019 concept, this road-going beast is set to rewrite Ginetta’s 66-year history. Starting at a cool £275,000 (R6,470,000), the Akula isn’t just another car; it’s a celebration of Ginetta’s legacy and the 20th anniversary of Dr Lawrence Tomlinson’s reign at the helm. Exclusivity is the name of the game with only 20 units planned, making this car a collector’s dream. Dr Tomlinson, Le Mans GT2 class winner in 2006, has been hands-on in developing this mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive coupé. From design to track testing, he’s left his mark on every step. He’s not just a figurehead - he’s the heartbeat of the Akula project. Drawing from Ginetta’s rich GT racing heritage, this supercar is a pure expression of the company’s decades-long motorsport expertise. Each Akula is handcrafted with the finest materials, cutting-edge tech, and the promise of thrilling performance that leaves you craving more. “Over my twenty years with Ginetta, I’ve seen it all, but the launch of the Akula is beyond special,” says Tomlinson. “It’s a new direction for us, but it stays true to our core - engineering excellence and driver engagement. Ginetta isn’t about just making fast cars; it’s about creating machines that connect with the driver in ways that leave them breathless. The Akula? It’s a road-going monster that can dominate a track like the Nürburgring, and still haul your luggage in style.” A single glance at the Akula tells you everything you need to know. Low-slung and aggressive, this two-door coupé is built for performance. A lightweight carbon monocoque and carbon subframes keep things razor-sharp. Ginetta has thrown in a motorsport-grade steel roll cage for extra rigidity, because why not? Aerodynamics are key here too - borrowed straight from Ginetta’s G61-LT-P1 LMP1 race car. The carbon fibre flat floor, front splitter, turning vanes, rear wing, and diffuser all work in unison to keep air flowing smoothly and downforce up, letting you carve through corners like a pro.

But it’s not just about handling. The Akula packs a naturally aspirated 6.4-litre V8, based on a Ginetta billet aluminium block, with a titanium valvetrain. That monster engine churns out 440 kW at 7,200 rpm and a healthy 670 Nm of torque at 5,100 rpm. That kind of power launches the Akula from 0-100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, with a top speed north of 290 km/h. You can pair this beast with a six-speed manual transmission for purists, or opt for the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic for rapid-fire shifts. Power hits the rear wheels through a Ginetta limited-slip differential, ensuring maximum traction, even when the weather decides to go full monsoon. In ‘standard’ spec, the Akula stops just as fast as it goes, with four-pot calipers and 360 mm ventilated steel discs at each corner. For the real track fiends, the optional Akula Race Pack brings in carbon-ceramic brakes, six-point harnesses, and a full Ginetta racing apparel kit. You’re not just driving a supercar; you’re stepping into a race-ready machine that’s hungry for track days. The Akula's mid-engine layout and 50:50 weight distribution deliver precision and balance. Ginetta’s electric power steering with a competition steering rack offers unrivalled feedback, keeping you dialled in at every corner. The double-wishbone suspension, with billet aluminium uprights and pushrod-actuated, adjustable dampers, lets you fine-tune the car’s dynamics on the fly. Oh, and did we mention the adjustable racing anti-roll bars? You can tweak the setup to perfection depending on the track conditions. As Ginetta’s Technical Director, Clive Seddon, explains: “Since unveiling the Akula concept in 2019, we’ve left no stone unturned in perfecting the driving experience. Working with Lawrence, who’s been hands-on through every test, has been both challenging and rewarding. The result? A road car that performs like no other.” With a price tag of £275,000 (R6,470,000) and only 20 units up for grabs, the Akula is a rare opportunity to own a piece of British automotive history. A few build slots are still open but don’t wait too long.
