THE VOLKSWAGEN ID COULD COST LESS THAN THE TESLA MODEL 3!
The Volkswagen ID could cost as much as $8,000 less than the Tesla Model 3. According to the Automobil Production, Thomas Sedran used the Automobi Forum to announce the Volkswagen ID and that it will undercut the Model 3 by $7,000 to $8,000.
The price is not official at this point as Sedran is counting on battery prices to drop significantly by the time the car launches. Lithium-ion batteries currently cost between $172 - $229 per kilowatt hour, but he expects that number to drop to less than $144 per kilowatt hour in the future.
The Volkswagen Id was originally unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, and the ID concept previews a production model that will be launched in 2020. The electric can will produce 170 PS (125kW). This enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than eight seconds before hitting a top speed of 160 km/h. The model could also travel between 400-600 km on a single charge.
