VIDEO: TURNING GAS AUTOMOBILE INTO CLEAN ELECTRIC CARSDate: 2018-01-01
In Mexico City, more than 3.
5 million cars navigate the streets, plaza and avenues of Northern America's most populous urban area. Which means tons and tons of exhausts leaking gasses but, luckily, there is a solution to this environmental problem.
Meet engineer and auto mechanic, Alvaro de la Paz, and computer scientist, Hector Ruiz. Together, they’re transforming old gasoline-fueled automobiles into electric cars. Over the past decade, the pair has converted more than two dozen vehicles into zero-emissions automobiles.
While that may seem like a small dent in an enormous cloud of pollution, the pair hopes that their project will inspire younger generations to work for a brighter, cleaner future.
By 2035, electric vehicles could make up 35% of the road transport market, and two-thirds by 2050. This could displace 25m barrels of oil per day. Under such a scenario, coal and oil demand cloud peak in 2020, while the growth in gas demand could be curtailed.
