VIDEO: TURNING GAS AUTOMOBILE INTO CLEAN ELECTRIC CARS

In Mexico City, more than 3.5 million cars navigate the streets, plaza and avenues of Northern America's most populous urban area. Which means tons and tons of exhausts leaking gasses but, luckily, there is a solution to this environmental problem. 

Meet engineer and auto mechanic, Alvaro de la Paz, and computer scientist, Hector Ruiz. Together, they’re transforming old gasoline-fueled automobiles into electric cars. Over the past decade, the pair has converted more than two dozen vehicles into zero-emissions automobiles.

While that may seem like a small dent in an enormous cloud of pollution, the pair hopes that their project will inspire younger generations to work for a brighter, cleaner future. 

By 2035, electric vehicles could make up 35% of the road transport market, and two-thirds by 2050. This could displace 25m barrels of oil per day. Under such a scenario, coal and oil demand cloud peak in 2020, while the growth in gas demand could be curtailed.
