AUDI'S üBER POPULAR Q5 SUV HAS JUST HIT THE 3RD-GENERATION, PROPER PREMIUM VIBES.

For over 15 years, the Audi Q5 has set the standard in the midsize SUV segment across Germany and Europe. Now, Audi presents the latest evolution of this iconic model: the reimagined Q5, even more modern, dynamic, and tech-savvy. Marking a significant milestone, this is the first SUV based on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), offering enhanced efficiency through advanced MHEV plus technology in both petrol and diesel variants. "The Audi Q5 has been our most successful and critical SUV in the midsize class for more than 15 years," said Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. "This new edition builds on its legacy, showcasing the next chapter in Audi's pursuit of future-proof premium mobility." With this latest iteration, Audi introduces the 3rd-generation of its much-loved Q5. The original model, launched in 2008, quickly became a favourite in the premium SUV segment and this new Q5 continues this legacy, setting fresh benchmarks in design, technology, and everyday practicality. It’s more than just a mid-size SUV; it’s a sporty, tech-centric powerhouse designed to meet the demands of modern driving. The new Audi Q5 boasts a sportier stance with perfectly balanced proportions. A taut shoulder line connects the front and rear lights, enhancing the vehicle’s length and creating a powerful silhouette. A rising character line above the sill arches through the wheel wells, giving the Q5 a dynamic posture even when standing still. The front end is assertive, with a wider Singleframe grille positioned higher than in previous models, flanked by functional vertical air curtains that add to its athletic appearance. Sculpted headlights with sharp angles give the SUV a focused, confident look, reinforcing its agile nature. At the rear, Audi has minimized lines to create a sleek, clean design. From the rear window down to the lower edge of the three-dimensional light strip, the surface is smooth, with the light strip itself cutting sharply across the vehicle’s width. The diffuser, integrated into the elevated bumper, adds to the Q5’s sporty elegance, while tailpipe configurations vary depending on the engine, with the S model featuring the iconic quad tailpipes in a new, refined design.

The Audi Q5 lineup will launch with three engine options, all featuring the MHEV plus technology, which delivers up to 18 kW of additional power for brief bursts. The range kicks off with a 2.0 TFSI engine, producing 150 kW and 340 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive, with quattro all-wheel drive available as an option. The 2.0 TDI engine, part of the EA288 evo generation, offers 150 kW and 400 Nm of torque, standard with quattro all-wheel drive. For those seeking peak performance, the Audi SQ5 leads the range, powered by a 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine producing 270 kW and 550 Nm of torque. The new Q5 family is underpinned by the Premium Platform Combustion, designed for vehicles with longitudinally mounted combustion engines. The MHEV plus system integrates a 48-volt electrical system that supports the engine, reduces CO2 emissions, and enhances both performance and comfort. This system can generate additional torque of up to 230 Nm, while the 48-volt setup allows the air conditioning system to function even when the engine is off, ensuring comfort in all conditions. Audi’s commitment to innovation continues with future models featuring plug-in hybrid technology, expanding the Q5 family’s versatility. This evolution aligns with Audi's broader strategy of leading the charge towards sustainable, premium mobility. The new Q5 isn’t just about continuing a legacy; it’s about setting new standards and reimagining what a midsize SUV can be. As you’d expect, it ain’t going to be cheap, in Europe, pricing starts at €52,300 while the SQ5 is pegged to start at €82,900. Directly converted that’s in the region of R1,700,000. It will be interesting to see what it actually lists for on this side of the pond.
