GEORGE RUSSELL COMMENTS ON MERCEDES F1 PITSTOP CONFUSION IN SAKHIR
F1 driver, George Russell, comments on the Mercedes Benz Pitstop confusion at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix.
George Russell, a professional Formula 1 driver for Williams Racing, got the opportunity to fill in for Lewis Hamilton, after the champion contracted Covid-19, for the Sakhir Grand Prix and possibly the final race of the 2020 season in Abu Dhabi.
During the F1 practice sessions and qualifying, George Russell put in some impressive times, which guaranteed him second place on the grid for the main race. Valtteri Bottas took pole, but was just 0.026 seconds faster than Russell in qualifying.
During the main race, Russell took the lead on the first lap and kept Bottas at bay for the first two-thirds of the Grand Prix, until bad timing and position on the track when the safety car came out. This delayed Russell's pitstop, and then there was mass confusion by the pit crew and the tyre change, which dropped him down the order. A few laps later, as he was making his way through the pack and heading towards what looked like victory, a slow puncture cancelled any chance of Russell getting a podium.
