MASERATI JOINS THE CARABINIERI FLEET – SUPERCAR SPEED IN SERVICE OF SAVING LIVES AND NOW WE'RE MOVING TO ITALY TO BECOME COPS.
When the Carabinieri need to move fast - really fast - they now have a new weapon in their arsenal. At the General Command of the Carabinieri in Rome, Italy’s iconic law enforcement agency unveiled two new high-speed machines built for life-saving duty: the Maserati MC20 Cielo “MCPURA” and the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, both finished in official institutional livery and purpose-built for urgent organ and blood transport missions. This isn’t just a symbolic handover - it’s the merging of two pillars of Italian excellence: motoring heritage and national service. The ceremony was attended by top Carabinieri leadership, including General Commander Gen. C.A. Salvatore Luongo, alongside key Stellantis executives such as CEO Antonio Filosa, Maserati COO Santo Ficili, and Alfa Romeo Brand Manager Emanuele Cappellano. Their presence marked a proud moment of collaboration between Italy’s automotive engineering elite and the men and women protecting the nation.
This is the first time ever, a Maserati joins the Carabinieri fleet. And not just any Maserati - the MC20, armed with the brand’s phenomenal 3.0-litre twin-turbo Nettuno V6, producing 463 kW thanks to its Formula 1-derived pre-chamber combustion system. Built around a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis, this lightweight supercar is designed for blistering speed, exceptional stability, and razor-sharp precision - traits now channelled into saving lives. It’s the definition of “performance with purpose.”
While the Maserati marks a new chapter, the Giulia Quadrifoglio continues a story that began over 70 years ago. The Carabinieri and Alfa Romeo have shared a bond since 1951, when the rugged 1900 M “Matta” joined the force, followed by the 1900 sedan “Gazzella” - the nickname still used for the agency’s rapid-response units today. Over the decades, the partnership evolved through icons like the Giulia of the ’60s, the Alfetta, 75, 156, and 159, all trusted by Italy’s elite officers. Now, the Giulia Quadrifoglio carries that proud lineage forward with a 382 kW twin-turbo V6, rear-wheel drive, and a mechanical limited-slip differential. It’s got all the speed and control you’d expect from Alfa’s performance flagship, tuned for duty that’s anything but ordinary.
Both cars are fitted with specialised equipment for medical transport - systems that maintain precision control of temperature and security for vital organs and blood. The mission is to get life-saving cargo across Italy in record time.
Gen. Luongo summed it up perfectly: “This collaboration represents not only an alliance between Italian automotive excellence and institutional operational efficiency, but a true alignment of purpose in service of the community. When we speak of saving lives, we speak of the highest mission an institution can pursue.”
Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa echoed that sentiment: “The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and Maserati MCPURA are not only symbols of performance and style, but concrete tools to ensure speed and safety in missions of vital importance.”
