MCLAREN DROPS THE JDM HOMAGE 750S DUBBED THE JC96 - A JDM-ONLY ARTWORK

McLaren has just pulled the wraps off something rather special – the 750S JC96, a limited-edition take on its benchmark supercar, created exclusively for Japan. Just 61 examples will be built, a direct nod to the race number of the McLaren F1 GTR that stormed to the 1996 All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC) Driver’s title. This is no casual nod to history. The JC96 is a love letter to McLaren’s Japanese fans, blending the visceral performance of the 750S with a heavy dose of motorsport DNA. It’s also the first McLaren special edition to be offered exclusively in Japan, underscoring the brand’s deep ties with a country that has long embraced its cars, both on the road and on the track.

Back in the mid-90s, McLaren and Team Goh entered a pair of F1 GTRs into Japan’s top-tier GT championship. Their livery was impossible to miss – Rocket Pink and Tarmac Grey “Tiger Stripes” tearing across Suzuka and Fuji. Not only did the cars look wild, they proved unstoppable, clinching the ’96 championship and cementing McLaren’s place in Japanese motorsport folklore. The 750S JC96 channels feature a set of paint details that riff on the original livery. Splitters, mirrors, and rear wing endplates can be accented in Memphis Red, Titanium Silver, Ice White, or Graphite Grey – each designed to pop against the owner’s chosen body colour. For the truly committed, MSO (McLaren Special Operations) will hand-paint a full-body JC96 Tiger Stripe Tribute Livery, though just four cars will get that treatment.

Underneath the bespoke paintwork sits something equally significant: the MSO High Downforce Kit (HDK), fitted to a 750S Spider for the very first time. Inspired by the aero package first developed for the F1 LM and later honed on the 1996 F1 GTR, the HDK boosts downforce by up to 10%. A deeper front splitter, louvred under-wing panel, and raised active rear spoiler with endplates all contribute to sharper, track-ready performance. The JC96 also debuts a new set of Ultra-Lightweight 15-spoke forged alloy wheels, their design referencing the race wheels of the F1 GTR “Longtail” variants. Finished in silver and paired with gold brake calipers marked in red, they’re pure motorsport throwback.

Inside, the race inspiration continues. The Performance interior is fully wrapped in Alcantara® with three different finishes, each set apart by bespoke JC96 branding. An F1-inspired pedal set in gold, gold-finished drive mode switches, and a numbered dedication plaque seal the tribute. Extended paddles in brushed dark titanium, unique headrest embroidery, and JC96 logos on the armrests make sure there’s no mistaking this car for a standard 750S.

For those who want to go deeper, MSO offers bespoke touches like painted 12 o’clock markers and paddles finished in Tiger Stripe graphics, custom centre caps, painted keys, and even a Track Record titanium plaque honouring McLaren’s race wins. Mechanically, the JC96 retains everything that makes the 750S such a devastating performer. That means a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with 750 PS, a lightweight Monocage II carbon structure, and Proactive Chassis Control III suspension. The HDK aero pack and bespoke wheels simply sharpen its already knife-edge handling. Customers can also spec their choice of Pirelli P ZERO™, P ZERO™ Corsa, or Trofeo R tyres to match how hard they want to lean into the track side of the JC96’s personality. The McLaren 750S JC96 isn’t just a special-edition paint job. It’s a carefully woven connection between the most successful GT racer of the 1990s and the most agile supercar in McLaren’s current line-up. 61 cars, Japan-only, each dripping in GTR heritage and MSO detail. For Japanese enthusiasts, it’s both a collector’s dream and a rolling reminder that McLaren hasn’t forgotten the country that helped cement its legend on the racetrack. Or, as McLaren’s Chief Commercial Officer Henrik Wilhelmsmeyer put it: “The 750S JC96 is our love letter to McLaren in Japan.”
