MERCEDES-BENZ TEASES SINISTER C63 DTM RACECAR
Here are your official teasers for Mercedes’ entry into Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, which is basically a much cooler version of NASCAR for the German home market.
The C-Class Mercedes has done well in DTM with 85 victories in 159 races. The 2016 car will have a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and an integrated steel roll cage. According to MotorAuthority, it will also have a 4.0-liter V8 held to 500 horsepower with rear-wheel drive and a 6-speed sequential gearbox.Mercedes hopes to continue its successful history in DTM next year. There are three races to go in the 2015 season and Pascal Wehrlein is leading in the current Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM. The 2017 season will see big changes, as regulations are aligned with Super GT (Japan’s equivalent touring car series) in a new Class One category.
They are already similar in chassis and aerodynamics, but engines will be turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinders to match what Super GT currently runs. The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) is also following many of the same regulations making it easier for teams to compete in those events in the United States. A DTM America series is even a possibility. We’d be more than open to such an idea!
