IS THE NEW BMW 2 SERIES COUPE THE BEST EVER?
Let's all thank the pope that BMW didn't decide to slap on some monster-sized nostrils onto the new 2 Series as they did on the new M3 and M4. Instead, the new 2 series received a more modest front end and quite a number of modern takes to its visual design.
What really caught our attention, though, is what BMW has done to improve the handling and performance of the new 2 Series Coupe models.
From its initial launch, the new BMW 2 Series Coupe will be available in two drivetrains. The rear-wheel-drive BMW 230i features a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 255hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. It has a claimed 0-60mph time of 5.5 seconds and is limited to a 155mph top speed. There will also be a BMW M240i xDrive, which gets the bigger 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six. This power plant produces 382hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, has a 0-60mph time of 4.1 seconds, and will be fitted with BMW's state of the art all-wheel-drive system and 8-speed automatic gearbox.
BMW has also hinted at an M2 variant with a manual gearbox! Keep your eyes open for that one...
