SOMEONE TELL FORD SA WE NEED THE 2025 FORD MAVERICK LOBO IN SA, PRONTO!

In a nod to the golden era of lowered trucks from the mid-'80s to the early 2000s, Ford introduces the Maverick Lobo, a new platform for the modern street truck enthusiast. Building on the Maverick's burgeoning community of customizers, the Lobo brings a fresh twist to the lineup, sitting alongside the rugged Maverick Tremor and the efficient Maverick Hybrid. This new addition lets more drivers tap into the unique blend of value and versatility that the Maverick name represents. When Josh Blundo, a Maverick designer, joined Ford in 2019, he saw the potential in the Maverick’s clay model. He imagined it as his own – a widebody with wings, a front splitter, and new wheels. This vision took physical form in a special build by Tucci Hot Rods, which wowed audiences at the 2021 SEMA show. Fast forward, Blundo and his team received the green light to bring the Lobo to life. Simultaneously, engineers like Keith Daugherty began refining the springs and suspension, incorporating components from other high-performance Ford vehicles to craft an authentic on-road performance truck. The result? The Maverick Lobo, featuring a lowered stance and suspension tuned for on-road excitement, powered by a 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine, rigorously tested to Built Ford Tough standards and backed by a factory warranty. The Lobo rides a half-inch lower in the front and 1.12 inches lower in the rear than the standard Maverick, with an overall roof height reduction of 0.8 inches. With performance-tuned steering, this truck drives like a sports car, utilizing torque vectoring via a twin-clutch rear drive unit from the Bronco Sport, and boasting larger, enhanced brakes with dual-piston front calipers from the Focus ST. Channelling the spirit of drifting and autocross, the Lobo introduces a new drive mode that sharpens cornering, grip, and stability, reducing understeer. This Lobo mode is designed exclusively for closed courses, engaging torque vectoring and reducing stability control – think of it as the Maverick’s answer to the Mustang’s track mode.

To cope with the demands of high-performance driving, the Lobo also features an upgraded cooling system, incorporating a larger radiator and fan from the 4K towing package, alongside a transmission oil cooler. Aesthetically, the Maverick Lobo offers a unique twist on the Maverick design. It sports a distinct front fascia, a painted rear bumper, and rocker mouldings, all contrasted by a black-painted roof and 19-inch black wheels. Inside, the design is inspired by street art and athletic shoe design, featuring Grabber Blue and Electric Lime accent stitching, graffiti-inspired seat overprints, and the Lobo name embossed on the black driver and passenger seats. This vibrant colour scheme pays homage to contemporary streetwear trends, where harmony is achieved through an eclectic mix of colours. The Maverick Lobo is available in two configurations to make customization straightforward. The standard configuration includes all the core features, while the high configuration adds amenities like a heated steering wheel and seats, Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 driver-assist technologies, a 360-degree camera, spray-in bed liners, a moonroof, and, starting early 2025, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist. These advanced features simplify trailer hitching and reversing, using cameras and radar to align the hitch with the trailer and then control the truck's speed, steering, and braking to perfection. Ordering for the 2025 Maverick Lobo kicks off in the U.S. on August 1st, with deliveries slated to begin in early 2025.
