STUTTGART'S FINEST AT DGD 2024 - WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE?

The Distinguished Gentleman's Drive (DGD) is a global event aimed at celebrating classic cars while also doing a lot to support men’s health initiatives. The car-centric event is actually a spin-off from the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, but instead of motorcycles, it focuses on pre-1980 classic and vintage cars. Many of these participants dress dapper - think suits, ties, and waistcoats - usually in period-correct clothing to match the year or era of the car they’ve entered with and then they drive through cities in an amazing convoy in a show of style and solidarity. And wealth, depending on the car. The drive aims to raise funds and awareness for Movember and other causes supporting prostate cancer research and men's mental health. It happens annually, typically in September, with drives in multiple cities worldwide. The Distinguished Gentleman's Drive has been a major success since its launch, in fact, the 2023 edition saw thousands of dapper drivers participating across over 75 countries, with events in cities like London, New York, and even cities around South Africa. Over the years, this event has raised hundreds of thousands of Rands for this cause, with around R3,500,000 collected in the inaugural year alone. Last year the SA donation tally was a little on the low side, especially considering we spotted cars on the JHB leg alone that were valued at multiples of millions, but this year the country-wide total according to the DGD website sits at a total of a rather impressive $12692, or at the exchange rate on the day of the event - R217,422

While we love all classics and many of the amazing cars that attend these events, we’re self-professed Porsche fanatics here at SXdrv so we decided to show you all (most of) the Stuttgart beauties that pitched up in solidarity with the event. There was an interesting lineup of cars, and among our favourites is that sublime 356 and the rather rare 914 from the chaps at Abbott Porsche, but the star of the Porsche show was undoubtedly the 993, but with the first model being released in 1995, it means this car was the equivalent of that guy who finished Matric and still goes to all the high school events ten years after. Still, it’s in the law, you see a 993, you shoot a 993. Which was your favourite of these stunning Porsche models?

Take a look at the YouTube video that sort of relates, it shows the evolution of the 911, one of the coolest cars ever created. We love our Porsches, we see them often and even we get confused with the generations and year models. This may help: Evolution of the Porsche 911 (Animation) | Flatlife
