THE 1,600 HP KOENIGSEGG JESKO ATTACK CLAIMS THE HOMOLOGATED PRODUCTION CAR RECORD AT LAGUNA SECA.

When it comes to hypercars, one name that consistently stands out is Koenigsegg, the Swedish automaker that’s more a mastermind’s workshop than a traditional car company. While industry giants wield budgets larger than the GDPs of small nations, Koenigsegg remains a small, fiercely independent outfit, steered by the sheer brilliance of Christian von Koenigsegg. His inventive genius is evident in the way he’s reimagined automotive engineering, not by simply tweaking existing designs but by pioneering groundbreaking technologies. Case in point: Koenigsegg’s Free Valve system, which ditches the conventional camshaft in favour of a revolutionary approach, resulting in engines that are both outrageously powerful and incredibly responsive. One of the crown jewels of Koenigsegg’s hypercar lineup is the Jesko Absolut. While the name might remind you of a certain Swedish vodka, here “Absolut” signifies something far greater—it denotes the ultimate expression of speed and performance. And “Jesko”? That’s a nod to Christian’s father, an undeniably cool tribute. The Jesko Absolut’s development has been a longer journey than anticipated, largely due to unforeseen global challenges like the pandemic and supply chain disruptions. Yet, through it all, glimpses of the car’s potential have surfaced on YouTube, with Christian himself popping up in videos to share insights during its evolution. Now, the Jesko Absolut is here in its pre-production glory, representing the most refined version yet of what is expected to be a $3 million masterpiece. As Christian von Koenigsegg succinctly puts it, “The name Absolut comes from the fact that this is the absolute fastest Koenigsegg we will ever make."

The Jesko Absolut borrows some DNA from the legendary Agera RS, most notably its in-house developed 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8. While the Agera RS managed a formidable 947 hp, the Jesko Absolut takes it up several notches, delivering a staggering 1281 hp on standard pump fuel. And if you switch to E85 biofuel, the output soars to a jaw-dropping 1600 hp. These numbers alone suggest the Jesko Absolut is destined to shatter speed records. With Koenigsegg’s double-boosted V8 paired with their rapid 9-speed Lightspeed Transmission, this hypercar is expected to breach the 300 mph mark in mere seconds. But that’s not where it ends—this car has its sights set on even loftier goals, potentially becoming the fastest production car in history. In mid-2021, we first saw the Jesko Attack, a variant designed for high downforce. Now, it has a companion at Koenigsegg’s test facility—the fully completed Graphite Grey Jesko Absolut, accented with striking Tang Orange stripes, making it an instant favourite for any hypercar aficionado. “The Absolut feels very natural to drive. Because of its seamless shifting, whether up or down, everything just happens much faster. There are no delays; it is very responsive and behaves exactly the way you would want it to,” says Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh. On the other hand, the Jesko Attack remains the downforce-focused default variant. It’s equipped with a massive rear wing and a carbon fibre front splitter, designed to generate impressive downforce—800 kg at 249 km/h, 1,000 kg at 275 km/h, and a staggering 1,400 kg at top speed. To prove just how fast the car is, it recently hit the tarmac at the famed Laguna Seca circuit in California. The Jesko Attack set a new lap record for homologated production cars when it lapped the 3.6 km track with a Racelogic-timed 1:24.86. The best part, both the Development Test Driver Markus Lundh and the esko Attack had never been at Laguna Seca before this run.
