This is not a science experiment, but it is based on the latest performance figures released by Chevy. Their new Corvette C8 is quicker to 60mph than these 7 cars, and it's quite a list...

The rumblings in the car community are that the new Chevy Corvette C8 is going to be a game-changer. Classified as a sports car, the latest performance figures released by the American manufacturer suggest it's a supercar beater, and that's just the base model.

The car in question, the base model C8, will do 0-60mph in a quick 2.8-seconds and do the quarter-mile in 11.1-seconds. To put that into perspective, this is from the new mid-mounted V8 naturally aspirated engine that puts out less than 490hp (369kW) and 465 lb-ft (630Nm) of torque.

So what? You might ask. Well, when you consider the lineup in the video below of supercars that cost a significant sum of money more, it is quite an achievement. Yes, you may argue that many of these have a faster top speed or can get around the Nurburgring quicker, but those aren't real-world applications.

Considering that most owners will occasionally try their hand at racing between traffic lights and not much more, that can option every available package – including the performance package – and still walk away with cash in their wallet.

In fact, they could buy two full-spec Corvette C8's for the price of some of the supercars in this list. Not bad for Chevy's first-ever mid-mounted Corvette, and the looks are an added bonus. Imagine what is going to happen when tuners get their hands on one.

It truly has the potential to be a game-changer, and that is exciting.
