THE NEW MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS - NOW WITH GO-KART MODE.

With impressive driving characteristics and legendary go-kart feeling, the new top-performance models from MINI bear the legendary John Cooper Works logo. Visually, these models feature a large octagonal front grille in high-gloss black with the three-colour John Cooper Works logo and wide air vents. Improved aerodynamics sees the fitment of additional air inlets with vertical reflectors in red and to accentuate things, the optional red or black bonnet stripes with a black MINI logo are a nod to the brand’s racing tradition. The LED headlights with horizontal JCW-specific daytime running lights add a distinctive appearance, while round back there’s an aerodynamically shaped rear spoiler and a black rear diffuser. As usual for the model, there are centrally positioned tailpipes and things are rounded off with 18-inch wheels. The JCW model can be had as a hard-top hatchback or a soft-top version and to make it special the soft top can be had in black or with a contrasting grey Union Jack pattern. The top can open completely in just 18 seconds at speeds of up to 30 km/h and a switch can be used to open the soft top 40 cm at any speed -  like a sliding roof.  The design of the interior is based on the typical red and black JCW colour scheme, and it continues through to the JCW sports seats in black synthetic leather with multicoloured knitted fabric at the shoulders and red accent stitching. The JCW sports steering wheel with textile six-o-clock spoke and shift paddles follows suit. You can cruise top down, tunes up thanks to the banging Harman Kardon sound system. The clear-designed cockpit is structured by the JCW sports steering wheel, the high-resolution OLED display and the typical MINI toggle bar. It’s a very nice place to spend time.

Powering the new MINI JCW is a turbocharged 2.0 litre 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo petrol engine and it’s been given a decent update that sees the power on tap rated at a pretty decent 170 kW with torque up at 380 Nm - this is for both models, the MINI John Cooper Works as well as the MINI John Cooper Works Convertible. This power and torque is enough to afford the the MINI John Cooper Works decent performance with a 6.1 second 0-100 km/h shunt, while the heavier open-top version can do the same acceleration test in 6.4 seconds. The MINI John Cooper Works reaches 250 km/h and the MINI John Cooper Works convertible at 245 km/h. A sporty dual-clutch automatic transmission enables quick gear shifts for dynamic acceleration. Using the two paddle shifters on the left and right of the steering wheel, the motorsport character of the new MINI John Cooper Works models can be experienced as the engineers intended. The specific suspension settings guarantee a go-kart feeling combined with agile handling and the brake system in Chilli Red with the JCW logo ensures powerful, precise and safe braking even in demanding driving situations - A.K.A weekend track days. The newly added Go-Kart mode is a perfect match for the new John Cooper Works models too. With this cool new MINI Experience Mode, the cockpit ambience is completely tailored to performance and motorsport instead of mundane daily driving duties. In this Go-Kart mode, the display shows the driver not only the speed but also other performance-related data such as torque, the power retrieved in kW and the current g-force. Nice.
