MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS IN LIMITED EDITION 1TO6 GUISE IS NICE.
The MINI Cooper is quite an odd car. It returned to the market under the ownership of BWM and became quite the little hot hatch. Over the years the car grew in size and sorta became undeserving of the MINI name because they got so big. Performance always increased with the size, but the magic wasn’t there. Then, just to confuse people, the smaller body shape was still available too, and that’s what you see here, the best-sized version with the best setup and to make it even better, it comes not only in JCW-spec but also in a limited edition guise of said spec. We like that. This MINI John Cooper Works is called the 1to6 Edition and is limited to just 999 units worldwide. The MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition features a Midnight Black body colour with Piano Black accents, an edition-specific running bonnet stripe with edition-specific graphics, the edition logo in silver, white and red, corresponding badges on the C-pillar and the rear of the vehicle and side scuttles, 18-inch Circuit Spoke rims in Jet Black, and the door sills have an edition-specific 1to6 logo-design. The 3D-embossed decorative surface on the passenger side features the edition logo in a tone-on-tone design, while the black lettering “One of 999” on the left of the steering wheel refers to the limited edition of the John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition. The gear shift is also featured in the colours of the edition logo with a red background graphic and red leather stitching and there are also stainless-steel pedals. The instrument cluster features a glowing red bezel with red ambient lighting and a contrasting anthracite-coloured headliner. The lower spoke of the Nappa leather sports steering wheel and the floor mats also the 1to6 Edition emblem. The edition is rounded off by specific keycaps in the 1to6 logo design.
The car sees fitment of the regular turbocharged 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder powerplant with 225kW and 450 Nm of torque, and has a top speed of 250 km/h. The world premiere of this limited edition model will take place at this year’s Nürburgring 24-hour race. To have it make a proper impact, one of these 1to6 Edition MINI John Cooper Works has been specially modified for this race and it will perform together with the MINI John Cooper Works of the Bulldog Racing Team. So why the 1to6 nameplate? Well, that’s because this specific incarnation of the JCW is only available with that sublime short-throw 6-speed manual transmission, and that makes the MINI John Cooper Works quite a special high-performance model. Together with the standard, the mechanical manual transmission, it underlines the dynamic response of the drive and this equates to an exciting race feeling from the MINI John Cooper Works 1to6. “The MINI John Cooper Works models have their roots in motorsport. With the MINI John Cooper Works 1to6 Edition, we are celebrating MINI's legendary motorsport history and maximizing the brand-typical driving experience,” says Stefanie Wurst, Head of MINI. This special edition, limited-number version of the iconic MINI Cooper Works will be available from September 2023 in Europe, the USA, Canada and Mexico. There’s no word on pricing yet, but seeing as MINI is part of the BMW Group, you can expect BMW-like pricing.
