WICKED LIMITED EDITION GR YARIS MODELS UNVEILED BY TGR AT TOKYO AUTO SALON
There are certain shows where certain automakers go all-out and show off their latest wares and technology, and for Toyota Motor Corporation that show is the Tokyo Auto Salon and the associated Tokyo Outdoor Show at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. Part of the lineup of awesomeness comes from the motorsport wide of Toyota, Gazoo Racing, and the models showcased take the instantly iconic hot hatch to new levels of want. With the GR Yaris being aimed at the world of open track days and competition driving, it makes sense that the new limited edition units revealed are competition-ready and the tweaks and changes that have been carried out were overseen by a pair of well-known and well-liked rally drivers. One of the cars revealed is the Sébastien Ogier Edition Concept, and the other is the High-performance Kalle Rovanperä Edition Concept, and they’re as amazing as you’d expect.
These cars were created as a result of Toyota Gazoo Racing’s exploits in the World Rally Championship and the fact that they want to give drivers and teams an even better car to compete with to keep the TGR name held high. TGR will apply the data and research already gained from previous WRC races to be able to produce an even better car that will make waves in motorsport circles. The GR Yaris Rally2 Concept aims to see TGR be more involved in customer racing, and the car would be bought in race-ready spec meeting Rally2 regulations. The GR Yaris WR Concept, which is likely to have a name change, will continue development through feedback from customer motorsports teams with an aiming for homologation in January 2024. Keeping WRC and TGR fans even happier is the two limited edition streetcars are coming that are linked to Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä, both cars feature vehicle settings that match input from each rally driver and have discerning attention paid to both their interior and exterior. The commercial release date and additional vehicle details are to be announced later.
