WORLD'S FASTEST STREET-LEGAL R34 GT-R SKYLINE BANGS LOW 8S!

Nissan’s R34 GT-R is one of the most recognisable Nissan’s on the planet, even in countries that never legally got them if one hits the streets every car-mad person will fumble to get their smartphone unlocked and the camera open to grab a shot. Having featured in movies like The Fast & The Furious, it helped fuel the worldwide hype around the R34 and it became a must-have addition to any fast car collection. The car is still sought after by collectors, and thanks to the weird things that happen to them on YouTube and many being totalled over the years, the ones that are left are commanding good money, a true JDM investment. Purists try to keep them stock, which we can easily understand here at SXdrv, but we do quite like the guys who have the gall to modify and race these cars. There’s loads of fast R34 GT-Rs around the world, many of the faster ones no longer resemble the streetcar original though, which is why this one from Maatouks Racing is so amazing.

The Nissan R34 GT-R polluted and owned by Moey Mohammed still looks like the factory version of the car. From a distance it’s a normal Bayside Blue R34 GT-R, actually, up close it also looks like a normal Bayside Blue R34 GT-R because it really is just that as far as the aesthetics of the car goes. What you see is all OEM, there’s no over the top aero added to the car, just a tweak to the rear wing and the obligatory headlight-turned-intake on the front left corner of the car. The only real clue to this GT-R being ridiculously fast is the drag tyres fitted all round. That said, we often see this on cars that aren’t actually fast, it’s a weird new park-off thing but it does look good. It’s better when it’s for a purpose like on this one, which is now the fastest of its kind in the world.
Moey Mohammed is a customer of Maatouks Racing, based in Chipping Norton, New South Wales, Australia, and that alone tells you why his GT-R now claims the title of the world’s fastest street R34 GT-R. The Maatouks Racing crew holds many drag strip records with Nissan Skylines, including a few 6-second R32s. They truly are, as their tagline suggests, home to Australia's fastest VL turbos and some of the toughest RB road and race cars on the planet. To get Moey’s car on that prestigious list of the world’s fastest, the crew recently attended a drag race meet at a Kenda test day held at the popular Willowbank Raceway in Queensland. Clearly the conditions were just about perfect, because the R34 GT-R absolutely blitzed the quarter mile in an absolutely mind-blowing 8.22-seconds with a trap speed of 282 km/h (175 mph). The performance this late 90s Nissan is capable of has to be seen to be believed.
