A PININFARINA ELECTRIC SPORTS CAR MIGHT HAPPEN

Italian design house Pininfarina was saved from extinction when it was purchased by Mahindra for roughly $185 million last year. The newly revived company showed off a hydrogen sports car concept in Geneva, and now their sights are set on an electric sports car in the next few years.

Mahindra is involved in Formula E, so it’s no surprise that they want to combine their technology with Pininfarina’s design skills. Mahindra boss Pravin Shah told Autocar, “Design plays a critical part in designing vehicles in such a way that they are robust yet pollute the least while giving you the thrill that people want in vehicles.”

Mahindra sees the acquisition as a chance to make itself standout within the automotive world. They want to create electrics that push the boundaries of design in a new direction while considering their environmental impact.

The plan is for the company to produce a range of powertrains to show off their technological skills. What makes the cars work beautifully will be all theirs, but what makes them stunning to look at will be all Pininfarina.
