APPLE'S NEW IPHONE DIGITAL CAR KEY
Take a look at Apple's new iPhone that turns your phone into a digital car key.
On the 26th June 2020, Apple held its annual conference, but this time in a digital live stream due to lockdown restrictions. Apple revealed its new Mac operating system called Big Sur, as well as its new iPhone iOS 14 system that will have a feature called Digital Car Key. This will alow you to unlock, lock and switch on your vehicle's engine, essentially replacing your car key.
There have been some mixed feelings around this technology in terms of safely. Whilst the whole concept of having your car keys digitally on your smartphone seems really convenient as you have everything all in one place, the question is, what happens if you missplace your iPhone or your iPhone gets stolen? Are you still able to unlock your car and drive to where you need to be? Or perhaps you'll get a backup set of keys, but the issue is that you are most likely going to be away from home when you need them most, how are you going to get your spare set?
But, another point is that, over the last decade or so, our phones have replaced the need for a GPS, a music player, a TV remote, a mobile WiFi router and even your wallet, so why not chuck in your car keys as well.
