A big brake kit is a popular mod to do in the car community. It's relatively easy to install, offers better braking response and performance, but it's not necessarily a cheap mod, nor do you want to go for the cheapest option available either.

Probably, the number one reason why it is such a popular mod is not because of its safety benefits, but rather because they look sick once installed and shining behind your aftermarket rims, and that's okay!

But, the reality is that your OEM factory brakes do the job just fine for standard day to day driving. They are specially designed for your vehicle, bring you to a stop, are relatively inexpensive to maintain and produce very little brake dust. The problem comes in your specific driving style.

If you are doing track days on the weekends and like to give it beans every now and then, you'll find that either you are going through pads excessively quickly or you're brake response is getting worse and worse the longer you drive because of the increase in heat. In that case, upgrading your brakes will probably be a wise option!
