BMW PREMIERS A NEW ART CAR

Chinese artist Cao Fei has unveiled her design concepts for the latest BMW Art Car. Fei adopted cutting-edge techniques like augmented and virtual reality to interpret the BMW M6 GT3 race car in creative ways.

The project features the artists own personal interest in Chinese culture and society and themes around the future of mobility, such as autonomous driving, airborne cars, and digitalization.

Cao Fei's BMW Art Car reflects the rapid speed of societal change in China. The artist approached the project in her own creative, artistic practice, building a parallel universe. The installation delves into a trajectory spanning thousands of years, paying tribute to Asia's ancient spiritual wisdom as it moves towards futuristic goals.

The themes in her work are addressed through three different components; a video titled 'unmanned' that follow a time-traveling spiritual practitioner, picturing colourful light particles, and the physical BMW M6 GT3 racecar in its original carbon black. Fei uses a non-reflective black surface that allows the car to embrace the possibility of the digital world!

The BMW Art Car features nearly three year's research and investigation. During numerous visits to BMW's headquarters and factories, Fei worked closely with engineers, designers, and digital specialists, giving her a unique insight into the automotive industry.

Fei's multimedia installation will be exhibited at the BMW experience Shanghai before her M6 GT3 needs to prove itself on the racetrack of the FIA GT world cup in Macau in November.
