BMW’S BOXER BRUISER RETURNS – THE ALL-NEW BMW R 1300 R
BMW Motorrad has pulled the wraps off the newest evolution of its roadster legend, the BMW R 1300 R - and this one’s not here to make friends. With sharper looks, harder-hitting performance and all the tech toys a modern rider could want, this new boxer-powered brute means business.
“The new R 1300 R takes everything we loved about the old model and cranks it to eleven,” says Christof Lischka, Head of Development at BMW Motorrad. “It’s focused, fast, and more dynamic than ever – without compromising comfort or long-distance capabilities.”
At its core, the R 1300 R is still a streetfighter with a touring soul. But BMW's gone and upped the ante across the board. The boxer engine has been completely reworked for 2025, boasting 145 hp and 149 Nm of torque – making it the most powerful boxer twin BMW has ever built. Paired with a newly engineered chassis and redesigned die-cast aluminium rear frame, this machine is sharper, lighter, and more agile than ever before.
The new 47mm upside-down front forks and revised Evo Paralever rear give it surgical front-end feedback and rock-solid stability. The wheels? New 17-inch hollow-spoke cast aluminium designs – over 1.4 kg lighter than before – delivering quicker acceleration and improved braking response.
Want to go full-send? The Performance variant lets you dive even deeper into the sportbike playbook with a shorter sport seat, adjustable footrests, milled levers, engine spoiler, sport tyres and screens. Add in Dynamic Traction Control Shift and this isn’t just a weekend toy – it’s a track-day sleeper dressed for a night out.
For those who prefer longer hauls and weekend escapes, optional luxuries like seat heating, the Riding Assistant suite, touring screen, and a new electrified luggage system turn this brawler into a proper long-distance bruiser. The cases – 26 and 29 litres – feature central locking, interior lighting, and even a USB-C charging port inside the left pannier. BMW's also binned straps on the new tank bag, opting for a tank-ring magnetic mount for that clean, no-fuss look.
Four Flavours of Fury.
The R 1300 R is available in four distinct guises:
Snapper Rocks Blue Metallic for the base spec – bold and bright.
Racing Blue Metallic for the Exclusive variant – sleek and techy.
Lightwhite Uni for the Performance variant – sharp and sporty.
Blackstorm Metallic as part of the high-end Option 719 Kilauea range – stealth mode activated.
Each model rides the same ergonomics-focused setup, putting riders further forward for more control and feedback at the bars, while still keeping long-haul comfort in check. And with a range of seat options (all under 790 mm), BMW’s ensured the R 1300 R remains as welcoming as ever – especially to new and returning riders. While the standard setup is no slouch – twin 4-pot radials up front and a floating twin-piston caliper at the rear – BMW also offers an optional Sport Brake package, complete with titanium-finish callipers and enhanced bite.
