CAN THE MYTHBUSTERS GET A ROCKET-POWERED CAR TO FLY A MILE?

And now for something completely different! Can the Mythbusters get a rocket-powered car to travel over a mile in the air? Let's check it out.

The story goes that an airman once strapped a rocket to his car, raced through a highway in the desert, hit a bump in the road and flew for over a mile.

Sound plausible? Well, the guys at Mythbusters didn't think so and, ten years ago, decided to see if they could get it right. A decade and two failed attempts later, the best they've managed is writing two cars off completely.

In this episode, they've got one last try to get everything right. Six rockets installed into the back of a Chevy Impala, weights in the front to balance the car, and a ramp made of roof trusses set at the perfect angle for the best launch possible.

Will the Mythbusters get their Impala to fly a mile or will it end up exploding into a million pieces? The only way to find out is to hit the play button below.
