ELECTRIC, SHARPENED AND RATHER TASTY - THE LEXUS RZ IS NOW AVAILABLE AS A HARDCORE F SPORT PERFORMANCE SPECIAL
Lexus is turning up the voltage with the introduction of the RZ 600e “F SPORT Performance” - a special-edition flagship that pushes the brand’s dedicated BEV platform firmly into performance territory. Set to arrive at selected Lexus dealerships from 2 March 2026 (and likely never in SA), this new variant builds on the RZ’s electric foundations with more power, more aero and a far more focused driving experience. The RZ occupies an important place in Lexus history. As the brand’s first model developed purely as a battery-electric vehicle, it represents the starting point of Lexus’ transition toward a BEV-led future. Since the RZ 450e AWD debuted in 2023, followed by the range-optimised RZ 300e and the limited-run RZ 450e “F SPORT Performance,” Lexus has steadily expanded the lineup to cater to everything from efficiency-minded commuters to driving enthusiasts.
Based on the comprehensively updated RZ 550e “F SPORT,” the 600e elevates the F SPORT Performance formula with exclusive aerodynamic components designed to generate meaningful downforce, paired with increased motor output and upgraded braking hardware. The result is an electric SUV that prioritises handling stability and driver engagement, rather than simply chasing headline range figures. Lexus has lowered the overall ride height by 20 mm compared to the standard RZ 550e F SPORT, reducing aerodynamic drag while sharpening the car’s stance and high-speed stability. A reassessment of battery output limits allows the system to deliver a combined 313 kW, producing smooth yet emotionally engaging acceleration that Lexus says is designed to feel progressive rather than abrupt.
To keep that performance in check, the RZ 600e adopts larger 20-inch brake rotors, delivering stronger, more confidence-inspiring braking. The brake feel has been tuned specifically for sporty driving, offering precise modulation and a stronger sense of connection between driver and machine - a detail that enthusiasts will appreciate. A key highlight is Lexus’ steer-by-wire system, paired with Interactive Manual Drive. Together, they aim to deliver a next-generation steering experience that enhances driver involvement across everything from urban driving to fast, flowing back roads, reinforcing the idea that BEVs don’t have to feel sterile or disconnected.
Visually, the RZ 600e “F SPORT Performance” is rather epic - prospective buyers can choose between a Black and HAKUGIN II matte clear finish, or a Black and Neutrino Grey scheme shared with the RZ 550e F SPORT. Blue accents contrast against the dark bodywork, highlighting Lexus’ electrified performance identity and adding a fresh, high-tech edge to the design. Inside, sportiness meets refinement; the front seats are crafted using an integrated foam moulding process, providing strong lateral support during spirited driving while maintaining everyday comfort. It’s a cabin designed to feel special without sacrificing Lexus’ trademark sense of calm and quality.
Much of the RZ’s dynamic character has been shaped by two key collaborators. Air race pilot Yoshihide Muroya - the first Asian pilot to win the Red Bull Air Race World Championship - brings aviation-inspired aerodynamic thinking through his work with LEXUS PATHFINDER AIR RACING. Alongside him, professional racing driver Masahiro Sasaki has been involved in refining the RZ’s driving character from its earliest development stages, including previous F SPORT Performance models and Lexus’s more hardcore projects.
